View Full Version : Himitsu's theory of the ice barrier...

WoD members are mentioned all over Koric's journal.. :)

This time Koric mentions Himitsu's theory (plus a picture of the ice barrier):
"At any rate, Himitsu suspects that mystics with an ethereal amulet can gain access to Leradla through the icy barrier."
http://dingram.phys.tcu.edu/koric.html

Any more details on your investigations Himitsu? Are you training lots with this amulet?
Have you been to the ice barrier yourself yet?
Any words on what all the amulet can do again? If I had known anything about it, I've since forgotten...

Thanks

Konoko

The current theory is that every brion brother has an Ethereal Amulet trainer. Basically, the trainers teach you more about the Ethereal plane and how to use the Ethereal Amulets better. I recall from somewhere, maybe Babajaga's page, that the Ethereal plane appears chaotic but when you understand it more you realize that it has an order to it.

I have training with the Umbrion trainer which is found on Kizmia's Island. I would like to have training with the Tenebrion's trainer which is found by going to the top of Tenebrion's tower to get a key then going to the basement to get access to the trainer. You need an Ethereal Amulet to get across a barrier and get access to the trainer. That's why I've kept the one amulet I have so I could get access to the trainers if I get access to them.

I'd really like to train with either trainer so if any group is going to either spot, please invite me. I want to get much better with my understanding of the Ethereal plane and how to use the Ethereal Amulet.

Himitsu,

Just FYI, K'vynn seems to be doing the same. In his case, he's trained with the Tenebrion trainer and is looking to train with the one on KI.... anyone knowing of a party going... he'd be interested (he does lurk here...) [;)] - please keep him in mind, he'd like to help with your investigations if you would like.

Also, seems the Akara clan has been making progress on a DI map. Some PF's are missing that I know about - but I like the way he's done it so far. I would think Rylantar and company will be breaching the interior on their next mapping round. What I will pass on to him is that I really know that the folks here have lots of experience inside of DI (if he doesn't know about that already!). Rylantar gets his maps done quickly: http://orderofakara.com/

So perhaps a joint effort would benefit all and Rylantar can get some more nifty mapping done.

Konoko, K'vynn enjoyed the hunt. [:D] Too bad there was only one tasty sylvan around to look hungry at for you cats.

/action waves and bounces off to make more trouble.

Yes - it was a nice little hunt on FI. I'm glad I could help Akara that little bit...

Finding the 2 fire drakes just 2-3 snells apart was kind of a pain to wait for them to get killed. But I actually got a vanq on the 2nd one... :)

I'm sure WoD could use some of our FI knowledge and help out Ryl if he and the rest of Akara are interested.

P.S. And more tasty Sylvans are always welcome... ;)

Akara will need to recruit more sylvans I guess.

/ponders their scrolls say they have 6 members now, 5 of 6 are fen'neko... one sylvan. How did that happen?

Anyhow, this Ether studies is interesting. Himitsu, how do the amulets work so far? I heard you had to have metal to make them?

The NPCs where you get the ether shield and helmet or whatever also have the amulet. The NPC gives you an amulet for a piece of metal.

No such thing as an Ethereal shield, at the moment. You can trade an Ethereal helmet for a portal stone, but nobody knows what exactly an ethereal helm is. I'm guessing it's something that Pogue Mahone found and isn't telling anyone about.

You also have the option to turncoat and abandon your morals there in exchange for a purgatory pendant :)

What do you give in exchange for a Purgatory Pendent?

I'm happy that Rincewind got the Umbrion training since it's hard to get a part to go to the castle, or that's what Rincewind told me anyway.

I haven't done any tests on Ether since the amulets break so easily and once I learned that you need an Ethereal Amulet to get access to the new trainers, I've kept it so I can gain access. I will feel confident on using the amulets once I get all of the training and access to a more reliable source of metal.

That said, I'd really like to all of the trainers and I don't think the order matters.

This is an intersting thread [:)]

There are rumors of many ethereal fighter items because we know of the ethereal swords and in the libraries in the Ethereal Plane Tower one can read in one of the books: "You recognize the words; sword, helmet, shield, plate, boots, belt"

So many people are looking for those. One theory is that we'll find one of those in the zodiac maze that is beyond the scarmis queen chamber.

About the ethereal amulet, I have a scroll on that in the research section of my scrolls. It's incomplete but there are some basic info there. Expending that scroll is on the list as someone says [:D]

About the maps of FI/DI: I saw Rylantar's map. He showed it to me when I got lost in the footprint cave on DI trying to make a map of DI [:(] He makes very nice maps and, being a fighter, he can actually go to these places where I usually just get killed. So I think my mapping days are over. No sense even trying.

I have trained with Umbrion's trainer but I still need to go to the trainer in TK basement, so I will try to contact you Himi when I go. I was there but could not train because of a promise I had made to Loovma.

And I sometimes go to KI Tas, but these days we stay in the north part. I will inquire though if we can make it to the keep for those that need to train. It depends a lot on the lenght of daylight time we have, and since it is automn it is less likely that we will go to KI, and also that we have enough day time for the keep. The good thing is that the Fen'Neko-mystic tree is near the human-healer tree. Come spring though, it will be easier.

IMO, your best chance to get to that trainer sooner is to ask a full mystic. In any case you need one to enter the keep, as there is an illusion. But the best would be to ask one who can also use a strange stone and get you back that way.

About trainers also, there is one I think in the crystal room of Melabrion's keep that you can access via the mirror in the EP tower, but it was unaccessicle to me when I tried to enter. I did not see the trainer but there was the same snowy barrier. I had an amulet on me and could not cross the barrier, although I think it's because the slave-trainer is not "created" yet ('created' is the word Tenebrion used himself).

Cool thread [:)]

Sword of Souls, a powerful weapon, but of very dubious nature. They may be doing unseen and untold damage behind the scenes, so the only fighters who get them are the type who would sell their mother for a few ranks.

That said, I'd really like to all of the trainers and I don't think the order matters.

I don't think it matters either. I believe each trainer lets you read a different aspect of the ether flow, for example, activity level, strength, size of rifts, etc.

As Drablak already have stated, ethereal shield is one part of
the six "ethereals". We know where the sword is, and
recently found out where the boots are. We suspect where the
helmet is.

You used to be able to trade a helmet for a stone, but I thought
Tenebrion took away that slave "because he didn`t want us to
mess with things we do not understand". This might have changed though - I am studying the walls in the library at
the moment:)

I made a scroll on all our findings over the past years, but alas
someone threw away the RQ shelf key - I will let you
know when someone finds it.

Just to clarify a few points....

Um, while i have indeed been to the Umbrion's Keep amulet trainer (twice even!), first time i was bookshopping, and chose to train for that instead, and 2nd time, i was still training Phantasmatically useless stuff, and didnt want to swap[:D]

I have previously done the TK amulet trainer though.

2 further trainers are known....one off the ethereal tower, snowy level....and one in the scarmis maze, though when a groups of mystics tried to get to him, all were blocked at the snowy barrier with the message " an ethereal force repels you ", as were all other people there. I dont know that anyone has managed to get through yet. ( Yes all had amulets, and some other ether training)

The trainer in Umbrion's isnt actually that tough to get to, if one can get to the castle, as its on the ground floor....the nasty bit is going up the tower to the library/phantasma seller, an entirely different area. Finding volunteers to aid getting to the castle was the hardest bit !
