Hi folks!
I have a couple expensive (for a healer) clothing items, and I got to thinking about tailoring.
Ranks are slow these days, so I don't want to spend a month or two learning a trade if it does little good.
Could anybody tell me all they know about learning to tailor? It seems like a rare profession...maybe with good reason.
Thanks

I have a tailor character, and I can tell you that if your reason for wanting to learn is just to save money on mending, forget it. Basically there is no cap on mending training. Takes somewhere between 25-50 ranks to become cheaper than Striss. The more you learn, the cheaper mending gets and the more damaged clothing you can handle. There's an effectiveness dropoff as you get into more and more training, so unless you're a professional tailor with tons of ranks in the skill, you won't be able to compete on prices well at all except with the other hobby tailors. Most tailors mend at cost or with a very small fee, mine relies strictly on tips for profit. It's not hard to just find a trustworthy tailor (always ask for references if you don't know the person and check them, and it's a good idea to get a feel for their level of training) and even with a bit of training it'll be a lot cheaper than doing it yourself. You'll find any serious tailor will have at least 100-200 ranks of tailoring skill, some have much more, although most of those don't come out of the library much. Kodel has a ledger in the skill.
If you feel like putting at least 100 ranks into the skill, and mending clothes for others besides just yourself, then it may be worth it, or if you just think it's fun to do, but I wouldn't do it just to save yourself money because you won't.
