View Full Version : Idea about Handling Interested Exiles

I was thinking of a way of letting new exiles express their interest regardless of the availability of any recruiting officer. I am wondering if we might want to set up a web form application to the clan.
Obvious advantages:
It is accessible 24/7, so someone is sure to be able to put thier interest forward.
All of us can check it, so we know who to look out for and get to know.
They applicee could explain their reasons for wanting to join, and provide other information of interest.
Shy or non-outspoken exiles might find it easier
Obvious disadvantages:
More work for Kiri! (Do we have any other webgods, perchance?)
Impersonal
Kinda pompous (Fill out an application, wait 6-10 business days)
If they don't see us enough for us to know that they're interested, they probably don't know us well enough
I am not sure whether I like this idea or not. Perhaps have it as an option on the scrolls, but certainly not the only means of joining up.

It's not a lot of work to setup something like that. I could just set it up to email the appropriate officer about the exile's interest, and then we could also set it up maybe to list people who've expressed interest.
Personally I feel that anytime someone is interested in joining the clan it is everyone's business, but that the "new members" officer would maybe be the person best equipped to answer their questions and coordinate their meeting the clan if possible.
I do think a web form would be good given everyone's disparate schedules- clearly at some point we'd want to meet the person, but it doesn't have to be when they first express interest. It shouldn't be required that they go through a form, but definitely an option.

I'm very willing to help Kiriel out with any Web stuff. We can be the clan's 2 Web mistresses...
I was working on a few changes for the drakes web site to help Kiriel out but then the "thing" happened...
As Kiriel says, forms and all that are not difficult to do.
It would probably be the best way to have someone list their stats, info, skill levels, etc. It beats saying all this stuff at a meeting. What if someone missed the meeting or something?
Having it on the web would be good so that everyone would have access to it. Perhaps have it in a member only section in case the person applying did not want certain things made available to all to see on the web.
And even if we have this form, that wouldn't mean we wouldn't have this person come out to meetings and join us in hunts. It would just be a central location for this information.
Assuming the applicant joins the clan, we could have the info entered into a members information database. To start it out, each of us would have such an application filled out as well.
I see it as a more advanced version of what kiriel got working on the drakes site near the end...

"If they don't see us enough for us to know that they're interested, they probably don't know us well enough "
Aerick, this pretty much sums up why the form may not work.
Konoko, more info on the site would be a dream come true. I was thinking lately how nice it would be to be able to download a recording of a meeting I may have missed. Which leads me to this question...
How much server space can we aquire?
PS. ooc, my Photoshop skills are at your disposal

Your Photoshop skills will be sorely needed Nunul. I can do web programming but I'm really not much of a designer.
Regarding the site, I have my own web server (at my house, running off our DSL line) so we can have as much space as we need. I can't give anyone else direct access to it (my hubby's very picky about security) but I can setup forms for uploading specific pieces (such as visionstones of the meetings) if people like and people can always email me stuff to post. I can also definitely register a domain name for the new clan and provide vanity email addresses like before.
Personally, I think a form for new members who are interested is a good idea. They may not know us too well towards the beginning, but if they are interested, they can let us know so we can tell them when they can join a meeting or a hunt. I would think most people would prefer to talk directly to someone in the clan first, but occasionally we might have someone who's having difficulty tracking people down (I know that I'm often the only one of our new clan who's on at some points) so it may be easier for them to arrange to meet us or ask questions via a form.

a good way to let exile get to know people in the clan is to set up a few hunts durring the week, when clan members try and get to gether and hunt at diffrent times of the week. this will give exiles a better chance to meet with you other then at the meeting
