Well, the Newbielympics went off. I did two events - it was a very busy week for my spirit and I was not able to make it to the lands more.

So, the question remains - should we have regular newbie events again? If we do, when are folks available to lend a hand?

I'm very keen to get Winds of Dawn going again, although sadly I remain skeptical that it will happen.

I would say we need to get some kind of regular clan presence in the lands before we can realistically plan newbie events. Those WoD members still around should do things like lead newbie hunts whenever they have an opportunity. My first day in exile, I emerged from the temple to find Kiriel sitting in TC, and she led me and a couple of other brand-new exiles on a hunt through East Forest, teaching basic hunting tactics and letting me see more than a solitary life in the rat towers. That sort of thing makes a real impression and should happen as often as any Winder can do it.

Long run, we need new members. It seems obvious that few if any of the old ones will return, other than those who are still here. Another benefit of helping newbies on an as-we-meet-them basis (besides the fact that it's our mission) is that by restoring a visible presence and a good reputation among the new exiles coming in we'll encourage some of them to look to us when they want to join a clan (it worked with me).

Our established process for applicants requires they attend meetings, so we'd need to have meetings again. I'm going to start making a point of showing up at our old meeting place & time (I still get the weekly e-mail from Kiriel [:)] ). Can anyone else?

I don't mean this talk of recruitment to divert the thread away from Delirium's proposal for events. On the contrary: I think this is the prerequisite for our ability to start having newbie events again.

Meanwhile, scheduling whatever kind of events we can manage with as few people as we have is, in turn, another way to establish a presence and reputation and so recruit new members. So, it's like totally synergistic, dude.

/action looks over the above posting, and says "hmm."

What I mean is, "yes."

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

I'll start setting up some NSL events and we can see how it goes. If that doesn't work, we can try newbie hunts - but there are a lot of long-time exiles that like to "farm" newbies, so I'm not sure how much of a need there is for newbie hunts. I'd like to focus on events that bring out the social aspects of the lands more.

We need a new clan meeting time, if I'm going to make meetings. Because of my ooc family situation, weekend days are usually not very good for me. I have scheduled hunts on sunday, tuesday and friday nights.

The current time isn't great for me either, but the last time we tried to pick a new time the attempt foundered on the lack of interest by anyone else. In the meantime, I'll make the old time when I can.

This past Sunday I was out at the official time and had occasion to rescue a fallen newbie in town (Cadeyrn), and then took him on a hunt through south forest together with a non-new healer, Terrydill.* I always make a point of identifying myself as a Winds of Dawn member whenever I meet a newbie, and let them know they can call on me if they're in trouble.

*I may be misspelling both these names, I didn't keep a text log.

Well, when is good for you for a clan meeting and/or activity?

OOC: As I alluded to above, my family life is a bit more complicated than it used to be, so there isn't any time I can make 100%, but there are probably a number of times I can make more often than not.

We should probably poke the clan mailing list on this as well.

Well, when is good for you for a clan meeting and/or activity?

I'm occupied Sunday morning and evening, Tuesday evenings, and one other evening each week (which one changes every couple of months, it's Mondays right now). Any other time should work for me.

The problem with the current official meeting time for me is that I sometimes can't get home in time for it, although more often than not it's okay.

So, Wednesday or Thursday evening, perhaps?

So, Wednesday or Thursday evening, perhaps?

Either will work for me, at least through the summer (my floating weeknight commitment won't float off Monday until the Fall at earliest).

Is any clan member besides Delirium and me watching this thread, with a preference for which night is better?

I sent a message to the clan mailing list to see if that scares up any replies.

Sorry, been a bit swamped of late.

Thursday evenings would be workable on my end. Which is to say, relative to sundays, about the same chance of my appearance. 8)

Realistically I'm not likely to attend meetings except on a super occasional basis :) But please let me know what time you settle on so I can update the mailing list and scrolls.

Well it looks like Thursday may be slightly better, so how about going with that for now. What about the time? I'd suggest either (in ET/CT/MT/PT):

9pm/8pm/7pm/6pm or 10pm/9pm/8pm/7pm

Starting next week.

9pm/8pm/7pm/6pm or 10pm/9pm/8pm/7pm

Either is equally good for me. If we end up in the no-one-has-a-preference twilight zone, I'll flip a coin, but for now I'm good with both times.

If memory serves, Kiriel is PT, Altir, Therian, and Delirium are CT and Nunul I'm not so sure - used to be ET?

I think that the time may be more critical for those on the ends (ET and PT) than those in the middle.

An earlier time might give us more time for hunting, but 6pm may be too early for PT folks

Since no one else has spoken up, I have a slight preference for the later time, so let's go with that, starting tomorrow. We can adjust as needed, but we need to start somewhen.

Well, we had a meeting with Therian and myself, followed by a hunt which Altir also attended. Trowl and Nuniel (sp?) joined us as well as we visited the cloud.

All and all, I would say it went well.

For the time being, we decided to keep the time (9CT) and we will try to keep the meetings short and follow them with an activity - either a hunt or a newbie sports event. However, newbie sports events depend on a critical mass of newbies, so we may tend more towards hunts until we establish the time a bit better in the minds of exiles.

Kiriel - could you update the announce mailing with the new meeting time?

OK, I *tried* to post on the sentinel, but I got an error. I did manage to send something to Paramedic for thoomcare.

OK, I *tried* to post on the sentinel, but I got an error.

That's been happening to everyone trying to post on the Sentinel. You just have keep trying several times until it goes through. (Hit your browser's back button to get back to the message-composing screen, then hit "submit" again, lather, rinse, repeat until it posts instead of giving you the error. It's taking people anywhere from 2 to 20 tries for each message.)

It's been going on for some time. Check out threads like "Sentinel troubles" or "Forum posting try game."

I am very sorry I missed last nights clan Meeting!!

Oops! So did I!

The lesson here is that after so long "down" it will take time for proper habits to form. In the meantime I'd better stick a post-it note on my computer.
