Sorry, I just wanted to dredge this issue up. It got left behind in the excitement over this weekends events. Do we want a special policy for inviting members, and if so, how shall it work?

My personal stance on the matter is that we should have some means of inviting new members. What that system is, I leave up to Lilly (subject to me commenting on it =)

So, anyone have any feelings on this matter?

I have feelings, but I would like to hear what Farhope and Lilly think first. Would they want the rest of us to invite exiles?

I repeat what I have already written elsewhere:

"
I don't think that known exile must have a different treatment that others. I would, by large, prefer to have the same membership policies for everybody. I feel it is more fair and must not be a problem for known exiles...
"

So, for me, no invitation.

"
If it is a problem ("What? Me? I must also wait? as an unknow one? what a shame! A vote about me? But it is clear, I am a worthy one! 4 events? no way!"), perhaps it is better not to have her/him in the clan!

Yes, I think that even for someone like Nuvali. And Ga

I agree with much of what you have posted. We should not let anyone join us if they do not understand us and know us. We should not fear the process taking some time (but not TOO much).

I think Tater is a great example of the kind of situation I'm thinking of. We all know Tater, Tater knows us. Strictly speaking, she should have to go through the membership process, and attend 4 events before joining, but that seems silly to me.
Now, with Tater, there are extenuating circumstances: she helped with the starting of the clan, was in the SD with many of us, and could have just been with us in the initial start-up.

However, if there is someone who we know, and we know would be good with us, and who we know will be a great addition to the clan, I think we should have a system where we get votes first, so that we can tell that person that once they have been at the required events, they will be joined unless we have found a deep incompatibility.

It just seems wrong for us to go out and try to convince others to seek admission to the clan, and then once we have convinced them to join us, we don't know whether we will follow through with those efforts.

I dont like the idea of voting on someone before asking them into the clan. If we hold a vote, and several people dont know the person at all, we get sort of a skewed idea of what people really feel. I think that if there is someone whom we think should be in the clan, we should invite them to a meeting, direct them to our website, and ask them to talk with our members if they are interested. A perfect example of this is Chris Rex - he is someone that alot of us know, and in the minds of many of those people they have already decided "hes got my vote if he wants it!". As such, it is very likely that he is not going to need to deal with having to talk with sponsors to get into the clan - he is already well known. Inviting him to a meeting lets him see how we operate, get some info about us, and lets anyone who hasnt met him get to start knowing who he is. That also takes care of one of the clan events - which would be the other opporunities for those members to get to know the propective new member. I see no reason not to send out an email to people or post here abotu someone if you want to though - communication is good. And, if by some chance there is someone we all know, and all already feel should be in the clan (Tater, for instance - though i do not know if Sargon or Phiros have met her), exceptions can be discussed. I personally cant see making Tater be forced to go through 4 of our clan get togethers when shes worked with us for so long already, and weve already told her she has an open invitation into the clan. Comments?

Not to be a sourpuss BUT Lilly and tater's membership was voted on AND passed for if and when they wished to join, as is when Lilly decided she wanted to join it had already been decided on. Gray can verify this, so can Aerick and anyone else at the first meeting.

<Grin> oh yea in that same meeting we decided no votes should ever be held at a meeting again. after we gave Gray his new position

On the topic of "events", should a significant level of involvement in this forum constitute an event attendance?

This forum is one of our primary means for "relating" to each other as clanmates, necessitated to some degree due to the inadequacies of the game's chat system.

The reason we require event attendance is, of course, to give us a better opportunity to get to know and "relate" to the prospective member.

I am for that idea. Very much of the personality of our clan comes form here. What do others think?

I think the same Lilly.
But involvement in the forum is something more than one or two posts :-)
