I haven't talked to him about it yet, but I'm thinking he might make a good member. He's really nice and always seems willing to help. I also found out last night he has organized an "Arms for Exiles" program to get unused short swords and daggers into the hands of newer exiles. It seems like a really good programs and something we might want to get involved in- he says word has been spreading and he seems to already have it kind of organized. I invited him to come by one of our meetings to speak about the program. He's not currently in a clan so I'm going to see if I can find out why and if he might be a good candidate for the Winds of Dawn.

Hi

I've met him on several occasions and he was always a very friendly person. I also think he might make a good member. I don't know whether he's interesting in joining a clan or not though.

Oh, btw: I'm not sure yet whether I can attend the next meeting this Sunday. (ooc: returning home during weekend and not sure when I'm back)

Regards,
-Sargon

I don't know him personally yet, however, the simple fact that he had that kind of initiative on his own, and it being directed to the same goal as ours, makes him very desirable in my book.

Chris is great! He's very nice!
I've gone a few hunts with him and stuff and I think he would be great addition.
I'd definitely not have any problem voting him into the clan...

Especially with his "Arms for Exiles" idea...

This raises a question I have about the new member process. For individuals whom we wish to recruit, and who are already known by clanmembers, should they still follow the same system as exiles who ask to join?

It just seems odd to me to go up to someone and tell them that we all like them, and want them to join the clan, so could they please start this process and be voted on at a later time.

Well, in my opinion if there are people who already know them and like them, that should count towards the people they need to meet through Lilly's policies. I still think that asking them to participate in clan events is a good idea though- everyone should have a feel for how the clan acts as a group before joining a clan.

The main sticking point is the fact that the vote occurs after the 4 clan events. Everything else makes sense, except that the invitation, the getting to know each other, etc, is all still unguaranteed.

I think it would help a lot if we had a way of deciding if we wanted someone, to offer them a chance to join as soon as they had completed the requisite functions. Maybe just vote on their membership now, and then make the invitation, contingent on that person attending 4 events, and having 4 vouchers? Something along those lines.

I have the same question...
For instance, with Maxmillion, I believe he is well liked, at least from the members who had an opinion of him. If he decided to join the clan, I would hate to have him wait 4 events, especially in the event that the members who don't know him aren't involved in those activities.

Lilly, I would propose that recruitment of known exiles fall under a different process than the norm. In fact with people like Max and Rex, I would have no problem voting on them before we actually approached them about recruitment.

Thats all I have to say 'bout that.

I agree, invitations should defintely be handled differently. Until we get somethign into place, however, I think the best way of doing things would be to just invite them to meetings and see if they come! If they do, then it will count to their 4 events, and if we are inviting someone into the clan, it is very likely theyll already be known by at least 4 people already. (Chris Rex and Phiros both being good examples of that)

I don't agree with you all. I don't think that known exile must have a different treatment that others. I would prefer to have the same membership policies for everybody. I feel it is more fair and must not be a problem for known exiles... If it is a problem ("What? Me? I must also wait? as an unknow one? what a shame! A vote about me? But it is clear, I am a worthy one! 4 events? no way!"), perhaps it is better not to have her/him in the clan!

Yes, I think that even for someone like Nuvali. And Ga

Don't worry Farhope, I don't think you are too far to the extreme! :)

We may know the exile and the exile may know us quite well. However, does the exile in question know the clan well enough? Does she/he know our goals and beliefs? Will she/he adopt these for her/his own?

I think it's a great idea to approach people about recruitment and invite them to our clan but that the normal process should probably be followed just so that the exile would at least get a chance to learn about the clan itself as she/he may already know about the individual clan members...

Know what I mean?
If anything the process will allow for the exile to learn about what the Winds of Dawn stand for and what our goals are...

Suppose, though, that we want to get someone in our clan. Perhaps we decide to try and recruit a Journeyman Mystic. It would be very difficult to approach someone, try to interest them in our clan, and yet not be able to tell them for sure whether they can join until after they have committed to getting to know us.

I do agree that they should have to go through the 4 events before joining, but perhaps we could vote on them in advance, and tell them that they have to come to 4 events, after which they will be joined unless we find out that them joining would be a problem for the clan or for them.

Well, it seems to me that we are pretty well agreed that we want this gentleman among us.
I relocated the talk about invitations to another thread, so we can work on it there.

Would someone who knows him well care to talk to him about us and see if he's interested?

I spoke to Chris before to get him thinking about it. There are some other clans interested in him too and I don't know his feelings on them.

I will try to talk to him again the next time I see him. I hope he'll seriously consider joining the clan.

I spoke with Chris briefly last night.

He told me that he was reluctant to accept any offer until he was satisfied that he could make a sufficient contribution in time and energy in support of his membership.

Allo All,
I am GREATLY flattered at the interest afforded to me by your clan and all its wonderful members. Alas, I am afraid that I would not feel comfortable petitioning for membership at this time. I could not guarantee a specific day or time that I would be available for meetings and whatnot, and that is COMPLETELY unfair to the current members of your clan. I would rather not be considered for membership, than to join and find that i cannot live up to the high standard I believe that you deserve. Keeping this in mind, I WOULD like to continue to work closely with your clan and GREATLY appreciate the help with you've given to my 'Arms for Exiles' program. I hope we can continue to have a fruitful partnership in general and in helping out the less fortunate/newer exiles. I may be creating a clan in the next few weeks, but it is simple a 'no maintenance/name only' kinda clan, just for experience's sake. I don't want you to think that I'm 'blowing your clan off' for another, so I wanted to explain that :-). Please feel free to email me at any time with any questions/comment/requests and I will be MORE than glad to help out when i am available.
With Graditude,
Chris Rex
