View Full Version : Orga Eyes

I have been experementing with an Orga Eye for a bit. As far as I can tell, it seems to knock several ranks off some (not all) of my training.
It reduces the total ammount of Health and Ballence, making me weaker, but faster to heal; and requiring a bigger chunk of ballence for every swing (most noticable with an axe.) But if I equip or unequip it, my status bar remains the same, so I can be at 50% of Full, equip the eye, quickly heal to 100% of reduced, unequip it, and still be at full.
It does not affect my pathfinding ability. When I first made it into the second chamber after sleeping, I equiped the eye and tried again. I passed right through.
It does not affect my ability to understand languages. It does not affect my ability to brew.
It does affect my ability to hit and to damage a critter. For me (Exile with 0 Bodrus) the Eye allows me to vanquish a large vermine or Island Panther. Of course hitting them requires the boni my axe gives, I whiff with a club.
I can equip it when already fallen, making me about one level easier to heal, according to a healer watching me. I can equip it while I study, and it does appear that I gain more experience (or that it requires less experience for me to gain a rank.
It seems to be a very useful tool when I take the effort to switch it often from equiped to unequiped based on the situation I face. But it has taken some experimenting to figure out when I should and should not use it to best advantage.

Hello,
As far as I understand, you should equip when fallen or fleeing, then unequip.
Best is to have a mac'roh unequiping any weapon when equiping OE and unequiping OE when equiping weapon (and SS).
This way you are sure you'll never fight with OE.

The orga eye doesn't allow you to be healed one step; rather, it helps a teeny bit with Horus. If a healer is with you and you fall "Quite" and then equip your orga eye, it will usually do nothing. However, on those rare occasions where it makes a difference, you will be very glad you have it. [;)]

Curious! Thanks for sharing Bob, I had no idea the OE had any effect other than making you easier to heal and get hit. It seems maybe it has a more general effect of making you weaker. But you say it makes it easier to hit monsters? Or you just get a vanq instead of a kill? (Which would follow the weakness line better) I guess maybe I'll have to do some experimenting with it myself. I'm sure Taryn would be interested as well.

No, it doesnt. An OE adds a VERY small amount of horus. The chances of it making a difference from quite are about 1 in 50.

No, because putting it on will lower your defence and life. You should only put it on when you are fallen and need more horus to be raised, or when you are troilusing somewhere that is safe.
The difference it makes in the speed you get healed is so small its worthless. The chance of forgetting to take it off is to much of a risk for such a worthless speed increase.

If it changes the amount of exp you get from a critter (making it a vanq instead of a kill), this is prolly a bug. Weapons used to work this way, but were changed so they didnt. I think the idea is that ranks gained or lost from equiping items shoudlnt count towards slaughter level.
And an OE does NOT make it easier to hit monsters. In fact it takes away some of your atkus (making it harder for you to hit the monsters). It makes YOU easier to hit though.
The effect an OE has seems to be a set number of ranks, not a %. And while these ranks might be noticable for a newbie (less than 600 ranks), they are not for stronger exiles. I can hardly even see a difference in weapons anymore either (since they are also a set number of ranks and not a %). I use almost as much balance swinging with my rapier as I do with my GS.

I've seen more cases of OEs making the difference lately on fallens. I'm suspicious that they may have become a bit more effective.

When I said that it made a diffrence in hitting beasties, I did not mean it was easier. It is harder to hit, you do less damage, and you get more experience.
The amount is hard to determine, but it seems to me that the Atkus and Darkus penelties almost exactly match the boni of the axe, which I believe is 5 ranks.
When I get a chance, I will try out different weapons on the PKM training manaquins with and without the eye.
Even a newbie with an OE still slaughters Kudzu. A rat is still only a kill. But a LV changes from kill to Vanquish.
(I asked some rats ripping at my organs if I was a kill or a Vanq for them, but they said with the OE, I was only a dispatch.)

I agree with Michael that this seems to be a fixed rank penelty. It is only because I have no useful training at all (as I believe he would say :) ) that I see such dramatic results.
I believe the following trainers are affected by about -5 ranks: Atkus, Darkus, Histia, Swengus, Troilus. I am unable to judge wheather or not Detha is affected.
The biggest advantage to me is the experience boost of getting so many vanqs. I made 5 ranks in an hour on KB just getting tags.

I am betting your wrong about getting more exp. And I dont see how you can tell the difference anyway given how much critters vary. There are some critters that I vanq some, kill some, and dis some (beetles come to mind). Its impossible to tell the very small difference that the rank loss of an OE would make. And I bet this was fixed when the weapons were.
