View Full Version : Proxi rank vs Range

Now that I'm the proud owner of a Cad (well, once I get the loan paid off/soul back) I've been reading some of the old postings for Cad lore.. the recent thread was very useful.
Anyone ever worked out a Proxi Rank vs Range chart? I'm trying to visualize how many trainings this will take before it starts to become useful.
Thanks,
Blaise

My experience has been that it's about 50 ranks per exile-length of range. So with 50 ranks you can stand one space away (without drain that is), 100 is two, and so forth. My healer is only up to about 140 or so now though so I don't know if the effectiveness increases or decreases as you get to higher levels of ranks.
Basically 50 should be enough for it to be useful in some circumstances, but if you plan to get in the habit of cadding a lot you'll probably eventually want to pump to at least 100.

Town center is a good place to start learning the effectiveness of your cadding as you gain ranks. It is what I do in town center. Okay, I'm a bored healer. But, it helps to learn things on your own.
I now have 27 ranks of Proximus. [:D]

50 proximus is good for exactly 2 things: Raising fallens and rodding, and then only barely so.
100 proximus allows you very basic combat cadding, assuming good respia (because fighters WILL stress your range) and great rod cadding.
150 offers competent combat cadding as long as you're not lagging too badly, and you'll start to be able to show off and do cool tricks like running in circles around your poor befuddled healee. Every rod point in town will love you.
200 is the maximum practical limit unless you want to train to heal people offscreen. It allows you to comfortably cad over long distances (such as the other side of a river, blockade, or off the shore of an island like KI), as well as not hog the spots near the fallen when on Horus duty.
Personally, I reccomend at least 150 if you plan to use your cad often and don't have at least a 3:1 or even 4:1 respia:faustus ratio. It just won't be comfortable otherwise.

I agree with Hidden's numbers. To use a Cad in a group-hunt setting, especially someplace where the fighters will be running around a lot or there are a lot of them, 150 is the minimum I found was really useful. I trained up to 200 before working on passing 4th circle because it was just so much fun to be able to heal fighters when they were still in combat instead of waiting for them to come to me. I'm currently working towards 250 Proxi so I can heal those closer to the edge of my vision and fighters running away won't hurt me so much.

Is it better to horde the Respia rather than Proxi?

Yes, and even more important to have a good macro with a 2 button mouse.
I find 100 prox is plenty, and my respia SUCKS (350 message for 300 faustus). The trick is clicking off fast if they are running out of your range. I do fine healing in combat with 100, but my healer is stronger than most.
I wouldnt get over 150, it just becomes pointless after that.
But without 100 prox isnt worth training.

Ever played a 150 or 200 proxi healer, Mike?
You'd notice the difference if you had.

Whether you train Respia or Proxi depends on what you want to do. Respia is not a replacement for Proxi. If you want to increase your cadding range, you need Proxi. If you want to speed your rate of spirit recovery, train Respia.

Of course there is a difference. I just dont think it would be worth it the 50 ranks. There are better things to train to do than heal across the screen for me. I am strong enough to get in close.

THAT would be the key ... and why Dande's a Respia/Proxi junky.
