View Full Version : A Sense of the Ridiculous

Algernon's Birthday is coming up in a few Zodiacs. Traditionally, many exiles play pranks on each other to help Algy celebrate.
Now- lets pretend that you had the power of Joe. What comical things would you change for the day?
- Melebrion will now train: "I can teach you to make books from Sylvan skins"
- Michael's axe in the player window is replaced with a Staff of Ballou
- The rare PengyLyfe appears on KI, many exiles rush to become infected
- Sunstones begin to play 'soothing' versions of Bard Songs
- A Juliosaur falls into a Lava Pool, many exiles rush to enjoy Julio fries
Use your imagination!

(You're talking about April Fools, right?)
A rift will open in town to some wild and wacky place, usually with a rather OOC theme. Last year was NetHack, the year before MovieLand, and the year before that, Clanward Ho!

How about... a land where mystics don't suck! (I get first dibs on the Wand of Fireball).
But seriously, while I have no idea what Delta Tao will do, I am glad to have participated in Nethack as it showed me how tedious having to eat regularly in order to prevent fainting is. I find interrupting what I am doing to eat in real life to be bothersome (except if it involves coffee) and found it even more so in Clan Lord.
From the Movieland year, I remember Helpful GM saying that they used that time to try out new scripts, features, and is essentially a testing time. I'm hoping that they will find a way to test out new items and perhaps even sub-classes in preparation for them being made live since I'm hoping these things are being worked on.
P.S. Michael with a Staff of Ballou... wonder if switching places were possible. It'd be interesting to be as strong as Michael is for a short time.

I made that suggestion last year, to "inverse" the strength of exiles. That'd be so cool to be the one escorting Kiri around and protect her [:D]

It'd never work, for 3 reasons:
1) There are too many strong people as compared to the number of weak ones (Mystics). It'd be too big a job.
2) What about healers?
3) Would mid-range people keep their stats? Seems it would kinda suck for them.
It's a nice thought, though :)

How about having us be turned into monsters and invading a version of Puddleby with NPC exiles?

It's a nice thought, though :) 1) You can use a simple method that would work for everyone, say the strongest exile in the land has n ranks of trainus, everyone entering the place would have (n minus their actual ranks in trainus) ranks of trainus.
2) What about healers?
3) mid-range people would still have some stats changed, nobody is average in everything. And these things invariably suck for some people whatever you do. Last year it was much more fun for higher-level people than lower-level ones.

What if you used a method where two people who wanted to switch would both go to an NPC(s) and agree to switch bodies but you can only go to certain areas or maybe even within the OOC area.

So basically, low-levels get to be god, high levels lose most of their hard-earned ranks, and the folks in the middle have a fairly normal day, with a few oddities?
Sounds kinda petty and vindictive to me.
Edit: though I admit I'd enjoy it. If Gurgi, Mujin, Thuja and Koric all logged on I'd be so freakishly overpowered it wouldn't be funny.

That seems to imply that high level folks are gods, which they aren't. It's just a switch over, a role-reversal. And that wouldn't work everywhere, and would not be dependant on who is on, just in the special area (like the nethack area last year) and with the 'n' number fixed for each skill.
And I don't see how that's petty or vindictive. For a high level it could be fun to remember how it was in the early days, and it can be fun to get exp from smaller stuff again (rats even!). And if it's not fun then just don't go. As for low-levels, bricking something when you usually run from vermine is fun too, but then they'd get the slotters too so it's a trade off.

Unfortunately, I'm not all that sure it would be fun for the majority of people. Particularly if all they did was a sort of stat-reversal.
Something along a similar vein, that might be more interesting, would be a random stat area. You would choose one of the three main professions, and receive randomized stats, applicable to your choice.
I guess you would have to be assigned the appropriate tools for the duration, too.
I supose it would even be appropriate to have monsters in this area with similarly randomized stats...

I can see it now- a hunt group running from a killer rabbit

Everyone would get MUCH stronger. Lets' say Crunch has 1,000 Darkus. I'd now have 1,000 minus my Darkus, which is less than 500. I go way up.
The same is true for many skills. The only people who would really get weaker are people that have the most of one skill, like Gurgi would now have 0 Detha. But even Gurgi would get much stronger in other ways. I have good Skea but even my Skea would go way way up :)
You could I suppose take the exile average and somehow move around that number to avoid this kind of problem.

How about we swap places with the Darshak, demand a ransom of 1,000,000c, invade the town, rob the bank and drink all the beer? I nominate Kiriel in the role of Drakesblood...
