View Full Version : Swarms around town

Today there was a swarm in northeast farms of vermine that took down someone.

Day before was a large vermine swarm in south town and another swarm a time ago with ferals in the same week of the large vermine swarm.

I wonder any body else has reports of swarms that seem to popping around town lately.

It happens- Ive seen, in town (but not in town center) swarms of rats, scav birds, vermine regular and large, and skelitals- all in full swarm strength (44)

I just want to know how frequent these swarms are happening by seeing anybody else see one lately.

East Field seems to be a good place for swarms. I've heard of skeletal, wurm, orga, orga berserk, and large vermine swarms among others.

Its normal for vermine to swarm, so you might not want to count them the same as other creatures who swarm occasionally. Vermine will swarm anywhere where they are found, at least that's what I've seen.

You will find this kind of ****ing bullshit in all the places of CL, at all levels. I guess some jackoffs think its fun to be swarmed by slaughters.

Um, I like to know how frequent the swarms have been lately not where they happen. [:p]

If you see another swarm around town this week, please let me know about it.

I don't find that fun myself. I can understand lowering the experience level as you gain ranks but to actually get no experience at all. Seems to me there should be some credit given for being able to take them out almost on your own.

Oh well.....

I agree completely with this, especially since I can't walk out of town without everything with teeth running up to me trying to rip my throat out. I wouldn't mind slaughters if it was up to me to seek out and kill the beasts that I slaughter but I can't avoid them. It's so annoying!

I think this is part of the game design that was put in to coerce you into cooperating in groups. When you are new, you need groups to get exp because you are too weak. When you have been around a while, you need groups to get exp because you can slaughter everything that you don't need a group for.

I agree a vermin swarm is a challenge and it would be nice to get exp for it. The topic has been discussed on c.s.m.g.a. quite a few times, and to an extent the GMs agree, but they can't figure out a fair way to give you exp for 100 but not for 1.

I expect it would be difficult to even figure out how hard 100 vermin is. For example, Michael's slaughter level is higher than mine, but I can take out 100 vermin much faster than him. Who should get more exp from it? What about 2nd circle fighters that barely slaughter them? Hard to say.

OOC

If the game mechanics were to track how much you killed in a certain time and then give an experience boost if the number of critters was above a certain number, it would be possible to track swarms.

For instance:
Track time for a 90 second window

When there are 10 kills in that time window, pulse an experience bonus equal to a share for that kill to the character and his shares (so the character gets only the limited ammount of a share himself, but gets it even if he normally slaughters)

Do this for every kill that is more than 9 in the most recent 90 seconds:
00- kill
10-kill
15-kill
20-kill
30-kill
40-kill
50-kill
60-kill
70-kill
80-kill-bonus
90-kill-bonus
100-kill-bonus
115-kill
120-kill-bonus
130-kill

I can't be killed by vermine, so I can accept that I slaughter them. I can be killed by carrion arachne, however. Sometimes they spawn in such massive numbers in NBC that they are overwhelming for any fighter. I was killed by a spawn of over 80 of the things and it seemed that each of them hit me at least once doing more damage than I think they should do. They dropped me pretty fast from white and to add insult to injury, they then chewed on me for a while before I was rescued and needed quite a lot of Horus to be raised. Neither I nor the fighters who came to rescue got any experience for it.

We consider it traditional to wander off the topic of the thead. [:D]

 I thought this topic has remained the most on-topic of all of the most recent topics.

Well, here are my suggestions that involve minimal extra recordkeeping. Assume that determining slaughter level depends on a simple comparsion between a creature's difficulty D to one's ability A.

1) when one defeats a creature, a fraction of its D is subtracted from A, which then recovers to its normal level at a some rate. In words, one gets tired when one defeats a creature, which makes the next creature harder. In a swarm, the negative effect on A would accumulate enough to make "slaughters" into "dispatches" and so on.

2) modify (1) to require that both creatures be defeated without help. That is, only soloed creatures reduce A, and only soloed creatures use the reduced A. [This distinguishes between tagfests and swarms.]

3) modify (1) or (2) to require that both creatures hit you. This effectively takes into account the difference between fighters and healers: fighters defeat creatures more quickly but get hit less often than healers.

Taryn.

Hey, hey! There's nothing wrong with going off topic :) I happen to believe that some of the most useful information that gets thrown out into the public is probably due to the fact that it came out in some "supposedly" off topic way. Anyways, don't worry about it :) If you still haven't gotten all the info you needed, ask again! :P

Wooo.. now its even more off topic! lol!

****ing tell me about it. My coin whore got anniliated by a ****ing MOB of those god damn ****ing things. Hell I think you rescued me because you knew where someone would fall to the damn things.

There were enough of those ****ing things that they might have been able to kill my blue belt before I got out. ****ing lame. I brick cold lyfes, I shouldnt get taken down by a swarm of spiders.

Its one thing to not encourage solo hunters, its another to go out of your way to ass **** them.
