Alright, here goes. I discovered that sometimes, you may want to drop items in a certain fashion. Is it possible to drop an item where you chose (i.e. to the west of you)?
Furthermore, when you /drop \mine, on timeout, does the item return to your hand or disappear?
Thank you for reading my question!

I've tried but never been able to figure out how to make an item drop reliably to a certain direction. If there's a way to do it, it's well hidden. I'm pretty sure when you use /drop /mine and the item poofs it disappears and doesn't return to your pack. I'll test to make sure but I would be surprised if it worked differently.

Yup, items dropped using the \drop \mine command do "poof" after a minute or two. They do not return to your pack.
