When in southforest I noticed this with the sky command
6/20/03 7:10:29p * The Sun is rising.
6/20/03 7:10:29p * The moon is in her second quarter.
6/20/03 7:10:29p * There is a dark cloud to the north-east.
I followed the directions till I found in the snell of the marsh with the jade noids there is a dark cloud overhead. Its also in the first area of the mersha lair from the marsh. I later found it in another snell acording to tonto's map of the marsh it was two island marsh in south marsh. I didn't check jade noids but I think a group should get together and check it out. This is certenitly strange what do people think.

A new peice of information I found. According to babajabas diary it moves around. At one time it was in northeast field and peoples etheral amulets reacted. So keep an eye out for it. It may not be where I said it was.
I saw it move from above jade noids to the hermit hut snell, and then it seemed to disappear. So it seems like it could be related to etheral things.

Im not convinced the two are related, the cloud has been spotted all over the East field/forest/TW/Marsh area in the last few days.
And i dont think it set off our amulets i was there at the time and our Amulets vibrated angrily (or something like that) and then started glowing, this was at the same time as the ethereals invaded the ocean and portal island, Babajaga just happened to be standing directly under the cloud when it happened
There have been some very strange things happening this storm so it might be a good idea to keep your eyes open anyway
There were 3 invasions in one day just the otherday, ethereals on the ocean, then darshak, then jade noids invaded the east field and marsh as well as there being this dark cloud floating about.

I've tried to study this dark cloud since the last storm, but with little success.
Despite near complete ethereal training, and a variety of mystic skills to try, i've not learnt anything much more than anyone else...
It's there, its drifts around slowly (though appears jerky, as one cant detect it moving within a snell, only when it crosses borders), and that's about it.
Ether levels underneath and around it appear pretty normal, as does everything else, and there didnt seem to be anything particularly unusual going on in the Ethereal plane either (though admittedly i've only checked a small part of it).
The cloud itself does not seem to have any influence on ethereal amulets. They've been acting up recently due to the several invasions by ethereal critters, which might possibly be linked, but i think unlikely, as the invasions have all been at sea or on islands, and the cloud has been quite a way inland. If they were connected, surely they'd be at the same site ?
The other thing that's been happening recently, and i think is more likely to be linked to the cloud , is the world wide drake cries heard periodically....another mystery ive had little success in investigating [:(]

PS If cloudGM is listening : If its technically possible, perhaps simulate the cloud better, by changing the lighting in the snell underneath to nighttime levels ?

My brain is cloudy...
I was reading this forum from bottom to top still.
/action rubs his eyes and reads the CORRECT way...

Seems, the link to ether could be correct after all, in light of new orrcurances.
Apparently at one point the ether levels under the cloud went beserk, and a few ethereal slugs dropped through, though things returned to normal fairly soon afterwards...
Perhaps its " The Hole in the Ether Layer" ?

The thing that got to me about this cloud was what happened in the Sylvan Outpost:
"You cannot see the sky."
"There is a dark cloud to the Northeast."

For those who havent ventured out of the library today (anyone who has will no doubt have heard already!)
Thorin made a major discovery tonight...
While the dark cloud was over the mirror, he was able to enter the mirror, and got teleported to a new island WITHIN the dark cloud. Many others followed, and wandered this new land.
It seems to be broadly similar to the exterior portions of Devil's Island in design, with similar hunting perhaps to the NWF in level and creatures - so low/mid level mostly. There's also a small snowy area in the middle, with typical snow critters.
Seems one can only enter initially when the cloud is over the mirror, but having done it once, can enter at will, regardless of where the cloud is.
There are several different ways to exit the land, but ill leave them up to you to discover....
The official name for this island in the sky seems to be "up where the air is thin"...

Applications now being taken for the Puddelby Parachute Corps. We believe that with the discovery of the right technique, exiles will be able to leap off the edge of the cloud and into the snell below. Thats right- those orga will never know what hit them!
Applicants should be in outstanding physical condition, not affraid of heights, and preferably have experience navigating Purgatory.

Weird. There is no Sylvan outpost that I know of anywhere in the island chain. Perhaps you are talking about the Outpost in SF, by the Hospital/Gold Clothing vendors.

That is the outpost of which I wrote. You've been exiled longer than I, but I have to say that while I've heard this place referred to as simply "the outpost", I've also, several times, heard and seen in scrolls, it referred to as "the Sylvan Outpost".
And last time I checked, there were several Sylvans in there.

They were mistaken. The Sylvan Outpost is an entirely different thing. Ask any member of ELF about it -- the "Sylvan Outpost" is/was their thing.

Interesting terrain. Narrow areas and chokepoints combined with swarms make for interesting rescues. A good-looking area.
Nice that they put some mid-level stuff closer to town.... now if I could just get there consistently  Methinks rescues there are going to be problematic for a while...

Errr... Perhaps not *any* member of ELF. The only outpost I know of is the one in South Forest, and I can't find any mention of an outpost in the clan scrolls.
The term "sylvan" can refer to anything that's in the woods. Technically I can call the mirror in the SF "the sylvan mirror" and it's not wrong.

I think Hidden capitalized "Sylvan Outpost" for that very reason.
For those of you who don't know the story of the "Sylvan Outpost": A long time ago, some of the members of ELF tried their hand at an area design which they called the "Sylvan Outpost". They intended it to end up somewhere in the East Forest, in a small grove of trees. It was pretty, and had some nice features, like an arboretum, a clothes vendor and a couple of Sylvan-only areas but no GM took up their idea.
There was hope that the outpost under construction in the South Forest would be the Sylvan Outpost, but that was not to be the case.
Now, of course, with the oh so specific naming conventions we have in Puddleby, we have the confusion of the "South Forest Outpost", the "sylvan outpost", and the "Sylvan outpost."

Just call it Phelps' Outpost and you don't have to worry about the confusion.

It must be so frustrating to be a GM and try to give out hints.
I looked this up from and old,old thread:
Exile: How do we open the mirrors?
Oracle: The answer is cloudy...
Truer than we ever thought.
/thank DT for the great idea.

That's hilarious! I don't think I would have been able to say that with a straight face :)
I'm looking forward to finally going through the mirror when I get out!
