Have you been through previously when it WAS overhead ?
If so, one can ever afterwards enter the cloud that way, regardless of where to cloud is.
Just checked now, and its still impassible when cloud not nearby

I entered (when I posted) for the first time when the cloud was not overhead. I can now enter at will.
I believe the mirror was opened by a GM when I went through. No proof though.

Do you remember the /sky conditions when you went through?, i belive that recently it was changed so that if the sky is overcast you cant destinguish The Cloud from all the other clouds

I do believe it might have been overcast. I did look at the /sky and there was no change in any of the snells from town to mirror, but several exiles had been making it through so I tried as well.

I have been looking for an answer and thought I'd follow up here rather than start a new thread.
So is it true you can only pass through the mirror when there is a dark cloud overhead? Does anyone really know?

The mirror seems to be impassable when the cloud is nowhere in sight, it shimmers when the cloud comes close, and is passable when the cloud is overhead. Personally I've only ever witnessed the first two phenomenon, seeing the mirror shimmering when the cloud was nearby, then as the cloud moved away the mirror became impassable. As much as one CAN know things in the whimsical universe of CL, this seems fairly well established.

I had always been unable to pass through the Mirror.
After the story about the Dark Cloud started to circulate I started "stalking" the Cloud.
After many unsuccessful rounds (weeks?) of 'stalking' I was in town and happened to hear the Mirror was open.... raced there via PF paths... the Cloud was overhead!.... and stepped through the Mirror.
Ever since then I've been able to pass through the Mirror freely.
It did seem like the Cloud seemed to be moving by some rules (or it did when I was following it around) -- but it may be that it simply moves away from exiles..... would explain why it doesn't tend to be where people are for long. Maybe it has to be 'herded' like a Feral or Spriggan or something.
Hmmm..... [:)]

Has anyone found the Dark Cloud wherever it was (and been directly beneath it), and then sprinted to the Mirror to see if the 'opening' characteristic is, well, sticky or something? Maybe it's not that the Cloud is over the Mirror, but that you've been recently under the Cloud?
I can't test it anymore or I would... but I would imagine it's just another wack' theory in the series....

Yes once you have entered the mirror with the cloud overhead you can then freely enter the mirror at will. I have been doing that with one of my characters for many months now OOC.
Alas Steady Foot has still not gained passage rights to the mirror. [;)]

Is it possible to open the mirror for someone else? If you have access can someone pass through behind you like with pf?

I don't believe so. For me to go to Cloud since I can not pass the mirror yet, I have had to fall then be chained through the mirror by someone who could pass through. Then be healed on Cloud. It doesn't seem to operate like path finding. Although that was many Zodiacs ago. So it could have changed but I don't think it has.

I've had a theory on a possible way to move the cloud to the mirror but never had a chance to try it. Here it is in ROT13 so people don't read the spoiler by mistake. Just reapply ROT13 if you want to see my idea.

I have an idea about how the cloud might move but its only observations never tried to prove if it was right.
It seems that (and this can very easily be wrong as I've only noticed it in the marsh) the cloud will stay in place for a long time, but if I run around the marsh looking for it it moves quite frequently. The only thing I could think of that could cause this besides pure luck, is that the cloud sometimes follows someone who leaves the area thats over it. But as I've only noticed this in the marsh its hard to prove if thats true and quite possiably a trick of the mind as who really knows the marsh well enougth to notice if the cloud is moving. Only way to test it I think would be with two people one who goes right next to the cloud and one who goes under and the two keep in communicaiton while watching to see if the cloud moves. But this easily could be a red herring.
edit: Of course I'm missing the obvious way to test this. The cloud is often in the savanha where the area borders work normally. Then you can test this theory there and see if it works and if there are any rules you can determine then plan on how to get it through the marsh if this or someother idea proves to control the cloud.

Both interesting ideas!
Now we just have to try them out!
I've never been up through the mirror so it's definitely something I'd liek to be able to do some day!

I have chased the cloud and not been able to go into the portal, but perhaps not fast enough, as I was just exploring the clouds behavior, and not trying to test this theory specifically.

How about trying to test some of these interesting theories in a future post-meeting Clan Hunt? A bit of an organized effort with a scientific goal would make a change from bashing in beasties (not that I have anything against beastie-bashing, you understand).

A scientific examination of the effect of moving the portals toward the Mirror and/or the cloud would be the way to test the theories. I'll talk to my clanmates - perhaps a joint effort?

I'd like to try and herd the cloud towards mirror if anyone else is interested. ooc: My character is Sabine and can be found most evenings after 8pm est.
If anyone is interested let's set up a meeting.

After observing the position of the cloud compared to the portals, Connie came up with the theory that the cloud opposite from the portals. To test that theory we gathered a bunch of people to move the portal out of gmv, and into the rose. The cloud was when this began, along the beachs, in the area that you get to by going north through the center of the second beach north from town. So keep your eyes out on the cloud and wheres its moving. This might be the key to solving the mystery.

I just saw a report on the new version that The "mirror quest" should be somewhat easier now.
I'm guessing that means getting the cloud to finally get close to the mirror?
Now's the time to try out all your theories!
Even the old one's that didn't work in case they work now.
