I was around very briefly yesterday. I heard a few rumblings that sounded like maybe another of the fighter subclasses was introduced. Does anyone know if this is so? If so, any hints on which one and what it is all about?

Ann had mentionned that the Ranger subclass would be in v300. Apparently someone said that it was introduced, but I guess you have to find the trainers/NPCs, because they're not in the fighters' hall (apparently).
It makes sense that a Ranger trainer would be "out there" and that finding him/her/them would be part of the Ranger quest.

Ann gm told me that rangers are not in version 300. She doesn't even remember the post she made saying they would be which may mean that a snert faked her name. But I have definite news that they aren't in v300.
"I can't say when rangers will be in, largely because I don't know when the person working on them will be done with them, but they're not in v300. " From a private message from ann gm.
The TMN comment by "AnnGM" on August 14 wasn't from me. Please remember that there's no way to tell who's using what name in TMN comments. Keep in mind that someone may be trying to deceive you.
As Liolel said, I don't know when Rangers will be in.

But there being worked on right? Can we have a sneak peek like with the champion who came to town :-)

Yes, they're being worked on, but not by me. I don't know when they'll be ready or when a preview might show up.

I'm not sure if this has been made clear or not, but is it true that the ranger will be the name for the gossamer subclass?

In defiance to all logic about who actually gets the best use out of a Gossamer, yes.

I don't understand what you mean by this. Are you saying that Rangers wouldn't make the best use of a Gossamer, the fighter profession isn't the best home for the Gossamer, or something else?

He may be referring to fencers. You know? The people that actually USE gossamers?!

Actually, I'm referring to the fact that Gossamers are best suited to folks with buttloads of Darkus. Somehow I really don't see Rangers as the "HULK SMASH!" type.

That's true and I didn't think about it that way. Rangers are supposed to be the solo-type hunters but wouldn't lots of Detha and/or Histia make you more able to survive in the wilderness alone than Darkus? Crunch has a lot of Darkus but I've never thought of him as a guy who would commune with nature or sleep alongside our furry friends.

I would think that would be good. Ranger being one who solo rescues and travels, I think would need a lot of Detha, Hista and Trolius (spelling?)(or the abilty to create healing potions) in order to survive. I would think lots of PF also. Also the abilty to listen to the wild and travel without being attacked.
It would be nice if there were places out in the wild which would be the same as the library in town, sleeping with experience.

I must admit I am confused as well by the subclasses at this point. The champions are associated with the fell blade, the ranger with the gossamer, and the blood mage with the blood blade. That's about as much as is clear.
From what I understand a gossamer uses less balance per swing on the killing swing, hence if you have more darkus then your killing swing is often the first (for small stuff) and so you end up with more of the advantage of the goss. So high darkus is a good idea when using the gossamer.
From what I understand the fell blade gives a good atkus bonus when you hit the creature from behind and no bonus if from the front. What I'm not sure is if it gives a (lesser) bonus from the sides as well? Does it give only atkus or something else (like darkus) as well? What's the fell blade equivalent of the darkus for the goss? I mean what's the trainer that is good to have when you use a fell blade?
From what I understand the blood blade gives a bonus that is proportional to how injured the blood mage is. I don't know what that bonus is though. Is it darkus? Atkus and Darkus? What's the trainer a bloodblader should be strong in to make the best of a bb?
As for Detha, I imagine that it would be required of both the ranger (because they're alone) and blood mages (because they're on red when they hit) more than the fell bladers, because fell bladers hit from behind and so must be less likely to be hit. Is that a good assessment?

The Fell Blade gives a smaller benefit when attacking a creature's flank. The bonus is both Atkus and a lesser amount of Darkus. A Fell Blader benefits from Balthus because the weapon uses more Balthus with more training. It is possible for a Fell Blader to not be able to swing with the Fell Blade because he doesn't have enough Balthus. Regia is also good to get those swings back faster.
The Blood Blade adds both Atkus and Darkus. Blood Bladers should have enough training with Detha to not get hit when the creatures they are attacking while on red turn around and swing at them. High Histia is good for when they are fallen and need potions to raise them. Skea is good to have in order to afford RHPs to hand out to the party's healers for when the BBer falls hard. [:p] Ok, maybe I'm being hard on BBers... But it's fun! [:D]

That's funny, because I tend to think of rangers in the historical sense rather than the fantasy one, and I think of them more as the mountain man type than a communer. All of the real life rangers I have known and read about were more likely to wrestle a bear down and kill him for his pelt than to make friends with it. (Kinda like in CL.)

If you think of the solo hunter somewhat as Phelps does (think coin-whore), lots of detha is a very good thing. If survival, not experience is what you want, then you want to be able to out run the critters, or kill them fast. Gossamer with high detha will do that.

If you don't have lots of Darkus as well then you won't be getting as much from the Gossamer as you could otherwise. Having lots of Detha means you survive but will that really make you a master of the Gossamer?
