What i liked best in previous games was being a "Ranger-like" character. One who has knowledge of places (maps and PF training), The fauna (Skinning and Mandible recovery), flora (hunting for component herbs and ingredients for others, along with knowing where they tend to 'grow'), and being able to be out alone a lot.

Does it sound like maybe i'm headed to be a healer until other professions come along?

Does anybody know if there are other professions in the works for the programmers?

Thanks (I'll turn off my radio and listen to your answers)

Rumor has it there is. Presently there is a Champion class fighter. The Ranger/Fighter is supposed to follow and for all we know the Ranger class may have been implemented but to my knowledge no one has discovered it. There is supposed to be one to follow Ranger for Fighters but I can't remember what it is.

Not sure about Mystics and Healers.

Also there are other "professions" like sewing, brewing, baking etc. As a dumb old fighter just never poked my head around enough what else may be out there. [:)]

Well, I think fighters have the easiest time surviving alone in the wild, but you don't want to be a fighter. Do healers have the equivalent of Master Detha or Master Balthus? I don't think so. Healers can train with Master Higgrus, and also train a lot of self heal to heal themselves as fast as they are hit, but their ability to train defensively seems pretty limited. I think the best class by far for solo exploration is the fighter class... but that's my personal bias showing I guess.

In Clan Lord, the profession that can best survive in a situation is a Healer who has trained a lot of self heal ability.

Mystics are the only ones who can discover the true names of areas in the lands, as well as locate both exiles and townsfolk from a distance, and teleport between the far flung reaches of the world.

Any exile can gather flora and fauna, and learn to craft them into potions, beverages, tasty treats, and tools.

Some general rules-
Fighters get most of their experience from hunting, and usually have the coins for anything they want. They can train to hunt anything in the lands.

Healers slaughter anything they can hit, but since they get experience from healing other exiles, they shouldnt bother swinging at the beasties anyway. Healers can make coins from skins on group hunts, or from tips from rescues.

Mystics slaughter even the things that they cant hit. They get experience from the library. Most mystics still contimplate the hypothetical question "If I had two coins to rub together, what sound would it make?"

There are only the 3 professions and while there will be sub-professions they won't take away from the basic tenants of fighters fight, healers heal, and mystics do whatever fighters and healers don't want to do. So let's look at what you want to do.

Maps and PF training: anyone can learn
Skinning and Mandible recovery: anyone can learn
Flora: anyone can find items lying on the ground and right now healers can learn how to make the most potions. As a mystic, I can only make 2 potions and both of them are useless.

So if you're interested in PF and skinning and mandible recovery and making potions (except for the healer and fighter only potions) you don't need to have a profession because they are available to everyone. If you want to have a profession for some added skills I suggest becoming a healer. Not only can they make most of the potions but they are useful even with no training in healing. Meaning the second you become a healer you are able to heal. Not very fast and you won't be able to raise everyone on your own but you will be able to heal. Also, I would say healers have a very good defensive ability if you are so inclined to train in that direction.

What great responses. Like the game itself, this board is populated by such helpful people (tho not spoilers) that i can tell in my trial period to CL i'm going to become addicted...

It sounds like i can create my own self-styled 'Ranger' (as opposed to a subclass of the existing Fighter) by doing my own training. I've already trained tiny bits (<20) in Bodrus, Troikus, Skea and just started Dentir's training, and will definitely revisit the first two soon and should probably get some early training in Mentus

I really do appreciate the help and comraderie!

I would agree with Poesy that, for solo exploration, the fighter class is the best. Healers may be able to absorb damage better, but fighters can avoid most damage better (defense), and more importantly can better get rid of the creatures causing the damage.

I like exploring, but if I do so on my own, I have to keep running ....

Anyone can train with Troilus to improve their self-heal. While not as effective as Respia training using the moonstone, the self-heal from Troilus training works even when fighting.

There is no (known) limit to how much you can train Troilus, but you cannot train more than 100 ranks of Master Bodrus.

But if you are determined not to be a fighter, I suggest you talk with those who knew WorldWalker well. He was unprofessioned and explored extensively, and I think had over 500 Troilus. You might also want to talk with those mystics who have done alot of solo exploring, like for example Lundar.

As for becoming a healer, when I was initially exiled, I asked many people why they liked their profession. All the healers told me they liked helping others.

Samwise was another Unprofessioned exile who spent a lot of time with Master Troilus- he had over 1300 ranks I believe, and when in the passes could stand under a rockfall and be at full health before the bolder had bounced from his head to the ground.
