View Full Version : Doggone strange experience

My youngest relative in the lands had a strange and frustrating experience.

She was running for the meadow to buy her first sunstone, having lately saved up enough for it, and by bad luck fell when trapped in a combined orga/vermine swarm.

Since the keyboard spirit she shares with me was in a hurry at the time, she departed rather than going through a toggle-search. Unwise I know, but she is young and impetuous.

But arriving in purgatory, she found a detached spirit that instantly killed her again. (Is this a bug, like the landsharks? Or is purgatory meant to be sometimes dangerous?) Afraid of the consequences of a repeat depart while already in purgatory, she stuck it out this time while some mystics attempted toggle-locating with no luck.

Eventually, with the clicker really running out of time, she /prayed for guidance as to whether a depart in such circumstances was possible. No direct answer was received, but one of the mystics immediately ss'd with the correct guess about purgatory, so perhaps the gods sent a message. Unfortunately, all healers able to enter purgatory were busy on another rescue and the clicker could not wait, so a fresh depart was attempted.

And she was immediately killed again by the detached spirit.

Another depart. A frantic game of tag. Then she's down again. That detached spirit would soon plague her nightmares.

Again and again she tried to escape purgatory before the detached spirit could inflict yet another fall/depart on her...

In the end, from having never departed before, my young relative had departed 7 times before finally popping back into the temple.

No doubt a great deal of foolishness on the part of the hasty clicker was involved, but still... should purgatory be that dangerous? Departing already hurts enough!

Sorry, I couldn't be of more help, Therian :( After much toggle talk, I was able to track down the fallen to Purgatory. Unfortunately, all of the high level healers were on a OV rescue at the time, and couldn't help her out. By the time the rescue was over, she had already departed.

Purgatory is usually safe, but sometimes there are undine there, especially if people depart from EP or the Abyss. Undine in Purgatory are really weak though, so a healer with a Purgatory pendant can usually kill off any undine in Purgatory. Unfortunately, in this instance, no one with a pendant was available.

Oh, no blame to you Lundar, and thanks for your efforts. [:D] (Good karma for you next time we're out of the library together.)

Did you get a message from the gods or did you figure out my relative's location alone? You asked if she was in purgatory about thirty seconds after I /prayed to ask if departing while already in purgatory was allowable. (If having a monster in purgatory wasn't a bug, then I probably shouldn't have bothered the GM with the /pray. [:o] Oh well, and apologies to any GM reading this who was interrupted.)

My relative's pretty quick on her feet and just strong enough to bounce off most things if she's not cornered, but that Detached Spirit constantly appearing directly in her path while she was at 1 pixel of red was a real pain...

I think your situation is relatively rare--being somewhat weak, in a hurry, and having something in purg. Usually it's safe, but not always. In that kind of situation, there is another possibility. You can just dc in purg and take care of the problem when you have time later. Of course, you have to decide how much experience you would lose by departing vs how much experience you would lose by not using the library, and also how much time you have.

I would have advised her and anyone in a similar situation to simply quit Clan Lord and toggle-talk someone when you have more time. The experience gained in the library was not worth it to lose the experience from 7 departs and since there are no chewers in Purgatory you don't become more difficult to heal once you are rescued.

It's a shame that the Purgatory Pendent is 10k since that's a good price for a quick ride back to town but awfully expensive if all you're doing is rescuing the few times a person falls in Purgatory. Perhaps there could be an alternative way in to Purgatory for 4th circle fighters through the Healer's Temple for occasions like this one.

You're right, that would have solved the repeated falling and departing as well as my clicker's being in a hurry, all in one fell swoop.

It's the obvious solutions I always miss.
