I've learned this profession is guarded and no one will tell me the secret of how to begin. I've spent the last three days wandering around town and asking every npc I met every question I could think of and listened carefully to everything they say. I have had no luck. Is there no way to get even the smallest hint? even if it's just what direction to walk?

I'm beginning to feel a little depressed about it as I really want to be a mystic. [:(]

Unfortunately, I can't tell you exactly what to do since the path to becoming a mystic is one you must walk yourself. However, I can give you two helpful hints.

1) You must improve your mind as fighters improve their body and healers improve their spirit. Only then can you start on the path to becoming a mystic.

2) As fighters and healers have mentors to judge their worthiness at joining their profession, so do mystics. The mystic mentor is not in the open and you must have keen eyes and a strong mind to see him. There are other guides in the lands that will also judge you but you must find the mystic mentor for his approval.

These answers might not satisfy you but the path to becoming a mystic is a long one and these first steps are meant to prepare you for this. Remember also that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

Oh, there are so many opertunities for remarks here. (/ponder what would Michael say?)

But I'll stick to the helpful and relivent comments.

A lot of people recommend that one's first character not be a Mystic. This is so you can see over time what exactly a mystic is, as well as discover in your travels a few spots that seem "Mystic-y." A lot of clickers who have played one character for a year or more have a fairly good idea of where to start looking.

Oh, one relevent comment. If you absolutly love the sence of frustration that you are getting trying to become a mystic, then the profession really is for you.

As Bob said, you should consider carefully your choice of becoming a mystic. You shouldn't rush it (not that you *can* rush it). Becoming a mystic is a long (and often painful) process. Three days of frustration isn't even worth mentionning compared to what's ahead of you if you stick to your choice.

Most exiles take at least a year (puddleby year) to enter the guild, many take more than that (myself included).

And last but not least, becoming a mystic is a personal journey, one that you have to make on your own. That's part of the process, and one of the reason this path isn't for everyone. You should sit down and talk to a mystic in the lands, talk to many mystics actually, since we're all different and had different paths.

> ... I really want to be a mystic.

Do you know enough about what the mystic class is to know you really want to be one?

> Is there no way to get even the smallest hint?

Mystics (in my mind) are seekers of knowledge. IMHO, you'll be a better mystic in the long run if you practice finding knowledge yourself, instead of having it given to you.

> I'm beginning to feel a little depressed about it ...

Feeling frustrated at being stymied is I think the norm for the mystic profession. If that's not endurable for you, I recommend you not be a mystic. Finding knowledge IS hard.

If the process of becoming a mystic isn't fun for you, than being a mystic probably won't be fun for you either.

The ooc friend who got me into this game chose to pursue the mystic path. It took him over an ooc year to reach apprentice.

One reason why I think it's so hard to become an apprentice mystic is that that gives one time to reconsider.

I definitely agree with this statement. Even though I like collecting the data for Eyes of Puddleby and thinking about the clues and figuring out solutions, it's not an easy task and at times it feels like the work it is. However, it's the kind of challenge I enjoy and when I'm done, I'm happy and proud at what I've accomplished. Being a Mystic is a lot like this, lots of work but the "hah hah!" moments of breakthrough make the work worthwhile.

If the process of becoming a mystic isn't fun for you, than being a mystic probably won't be fun for you either.

I really think the process of becoming an Apprentice Mystic is well-done because it gives the person a sense of what being a mystic is like and whether they are suited for it. If you find searching after obscure clues, putting pieces of puzzles together, feeling useless at times in hunting parties, and spending inordinate amounts of time wondering about obscure aspects of Puddleby then becoming a mystic probably isn't your style.

I do recommend watching how exiles interact with each other and the various professions and not even focus on training anything until you get more exposure to Puddleby life. I think you'll make a better decision when you do that.

Malena,

i am not a mystic and i don't know how to become one (even if i am here for more than 4 ooc years). But, if i ever want to become one, i know what i would do: i would talk with every mystic i can encounter, i would ask them about their profession, their feeling, etc. After that, i think i would have grasp some hints about becoming a mystic, not a walkthrough, just the state of mind. Not sure if it would work [:)]
