View Full Version : assigning command keys to inventory items

Hi

I know how to assignb keys to an inventory item (i.e. select the item in the inventory window and press 1). So if I wanted my gossamer to be item 1, I select it in the list and press 1. Now whenever i do command-1, the gossamer is equipped.

This is all fine and good.

But from my experience with mult chars, this list of items seems to only save those spots where I have the same item in each of my chars. For instance if the orga eye is 5 and all my chars have an orga eye, then it's 5 in all. But what if char x doesn't have an orga eye?

Or what if I want 1 to be konoko's gossamer and for char x I want 1 to be a moonstone?

Am I explaining this right?
Do people know what I mean?

Is there some way to make this list specific to each character?
Perhaps a way of pre-loading it each time I start each char?
Would I have to do an applescript and run that from CL on each char start?
Is this numbered list kept somewhere I can modify like the Friends list?

Just a little side note: I don't actually use the built in command-# to equip. I have my own little macros to do the equipping so I can sometimes add text and such like "Konoko wields her gossamer." My macros do use the command-# convention though.

Basically I use these numbered inventory items to show what # will equip which item. So 1 is gossmer for konoko and 1 is moonstone for char x.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about??

As far as I know there's no way to get around that problem without maintaining multiple copies of ClanLord (or at least the prefs) and swapping between them for different characters. I just use the macros for most things myself.

hello,

I only use command-number for item I have in common with both exile.
I used it for suntone and OE, but now I rather use a macro when equiping OE (to unequip weapon as well) and same goes for sunstone/sungem (or the sunstone that spam to clan, whatever the name)

you do as wish needless to say, but isn't it more complex to run applescript and all, rather than have easily customisable f-key doing the jobs ?

maybe you should poll and post at sentinel ?

An idea:
Create a second Clan Lord folder. To keep disk space down, you could use alias of the sound and image files (just update primary Clan Lord client first, and instead of auto updating the other folders, download the patch.) Or just have multiple copies of everything if space isnt an issue.

For ease of use, create a folder containing alias of each CL client, rename the alias to the exile name, and drag the folder into the toolbar. To run a specific exile, just click and hold on the folder until the list appears, then select the appropriate client.

You will still have to use the character manager each time you start the client, and unless you set each exiles individual password to the same value, you will have an error each time you switch exiles, or you will not be able to save the charactor passwords.

In my experience, it's no problem using the same command key for different items in different characters, so long as the characters don't both have the same items.

I have #1 assigned to my longsword while Kaerie has #1 assigned to her moonstone. Since I don't have a moonstone and Kaerie doesn't have a longsword, they don't conflict. This is exactly what you describe wanting to do with a gossamer and a moonstone in Konoko and char X.

On the other hand, all of my characters have orga eyes, and having assigned #4 to it in one character, it's number 4 in all of them.

So it seems that while you can't have different keys for the same item in different characters, you can assign the same key to different, non-overlapping items in different characters.

thanks for the suggestions
Bob's sounds like it would work - but that's a lot of work :)

Maybe you're right therian. I do have 2 fighters with different sttles and some of the same weapons but I'm pretty sure I have them as diff #s because they have different styles and stuff

I'll experiment - I was hoping there was some easy thing that could be edited or something.

But if it's in the prefs or whatever then that kinda sucks. I even tried opening the file in HexEditor but nothing easy popped out :)
