All OOC

Does anyone know what the un-training does to your existing stats??
I.e. does it just reduce everything by the same percent?
Does it keep track of you last trainer and subtract from that trainers stats?
Or some other?

I have heard several times that untraining is a bad idea. A close friend, Hiro, has tried several times... and finaly gived up (he was a healer, now he is a fighter).
I think but I am not sure, thatit reduce everything by the same percent.
It can have some problems: for example, I think it could be impossible to learn back a language that you have already learn, not sure why (only heard that).

I asked this question during the last WoD meeting and got the following answers:

-Untraining removes about 10% of the ranks of
any trainer (meaning you cannot just untrain
a specific trainer)
-About 60% of these 10% are stored as experience

A small example:
You have 100 ranks in Evus
50 ranks in Troilus

If you untrain you will have approx
90 ranks in Evus
45 ranks in Troilus
experience of about 9 ranks saved

So instead of 150 you now have 135 ranks. 15 ranks lost (=10%)

Of these 15 ranks, 9 ranks (=60% of 15) are saved as experience.

I'm not sure whether you still train with a trainer after untraining.

Please correct me if I'm wrong here! Also I suggest you ask someone in town who did untrain lately. I wouldn't be surprised if the specific numbers change from time to time.

Unless you did something really silly, like trained all Mentus as a Fighter, you don't want to untrain. It is almost certain to hurt you more than it can help you, and as you gain more ranks, you can fix poor ratios and otherwise work around training errors. I strongly recommend not untraining.

Now, I can't actually answer your question about numbers and figures and such.
It's just bad

If the numbers I gave in my previous post are true and no random stuff is involved, it's not necessarily a bad idea. I've heard that some people untrained to invest the saved ranks into fist-fighting, which can be studied in the monastery now.

Depending on how many ranks you get an ooc day this could be useful. I'm happy when I get one library-rank a day so it would take me about 2 ooc-months to get to 50 ranks in fist-fighting.
But then, I'd have to untrain three times to get 50 ranks. =P

Of course the bad feeling of loosing earned ranks remains. =)

I'm wondering how people found out these numbers? My guess is that either GMs shared this info earlier or some exiles simply tried it out. Of course the numbers could have changed in the meanwhile.

I believe there is a test server where people can screw around with things like this. I'd bet money that no GM ever gave hard numbers for a CL thingie. I know some testing was done on the 'wild update' times, as well as with secondary characters.

I think exiles find out what a trainer tells them, then they untrain, and see how it changes. If they're smart, they'd use non-overlapping trainers (so, no Eva or Evus, rather Skea, Higgrus, etc).

GMs, I'm fairly sure, were looser with numeric data before the wars, but the info I gave at the meeting was just the latest test data I'd heard. Some inaccuracies expected.

But still... It's just bad
