View Full Version : Thoughts about clan-money

Hi!
Aerick mentioned in the meeting (21/1/2001 [I don't like the US date-format =P {ooc}]) that the money of the money-pool is not really used much.
I can't speak for others but here's my reasons from my point of view. There are 2 types of things one can buy in the lands - things that stay (like a shield) and things that can vanish/break (ie sunstone/chains/clothes soon).
I don't have a problem lending money from the clan for things of the first category. But the 2nd category is a problem. See.. If I used clan-money to get the sunstone and repay _slowly_ I'd be in a problem now since my sunstone already wore down one level. (after 3 ic-months, eep! :) It doesn't feel good to have to repay for something which already is broken. =P [OOC: Imagine you buy a car on lend money and crash it the day after :)] And you risk getting in more and more debt over time. :)
With chains it's similar. You have to make sure somehow that the money you earn is more than the chains you use. :) Ie if you use a chain per months (ic:) your income should be at least 600c per month, otherwise you're in trouble. But if your income is 600c or more then the money from the clan-pool doesn't really help because it only helps in getting the first chain a bit earlier.
Yes I'm aware that with a certain amount of Loovma the clan helps you with buying chains. But my point still stands - just replace 600c with 300c. :)
So.. what I'm saying is that clan-money (from my point of view =) is helpful for 'non-breakable' things and for 'discounts' like the chain thingy. But having a shield already I don't know what else I could spend money on! Any ideas? =) And don't mention clothes as it seems they won't be 'non-breakable' (what a word for clothes =P) in the near future. And I don't need weapons of any kind. (I already have a candy club =)
Suggestions? Comments? Shrieking epitaphs?

Tattos?
I can attest to the slowness of paying off debts. I've had my SS for...jeeze...I don't know, but its been a while. I have about 20c more to pay it off.
(the shield is another matter) While the SS that I bought on a loan from WoD has not worn at all, the one I bought AFTER for my healer wore a level within a week. I'm not saying that loans help the durability of SSs, but rather that the breakability of certain items is either very random, or are flawed at the outset when purchased. This is indeed a sad situation for my healer, as he tries to rescue quite a bit, and uses his SS for that cause.
I really cannot say what my point was in this rambling post.

Hi Nunul!

Ah, I almost never know. I simply post what crosses my mind. (Well, not including the thoughts about a certain female Sylvan *smiles*) Personally I would like that people use this forum much more, but if everyone behaves like me it's more a general chat forum, and I don't know whether this is the idea. =)

Aerick (I think) once mentioned that it's prolly just random. Afterall items don't have a state of their own at the moment so I guess too that each /think[to] wears the sunstone with a predefined probability. This probability can be changed based on other things like whether you share with a mystic (as some claim it helps) or other things. (like having a candy club in your inventory :)
I'm not too happy about this because right now I'm scared like hell that my next /think[to] wears it again, but then it's the same for everyone else. I fear a bit though that many people don't use their sunstone for sharing ic-related stuff but things like ICQ. [I'm know that this is not the idea behind your posting, Konoko! :)]
> Tattoes?
Ah I didn't think of these! But right now I'm happy with the current one. *smiles*

Sargon, you bring up an interesting point about it being no fun to re-pay something which you no longer have. My take is that it is a pychological issue, and not one that can really be worked around.
The Treasury has only loaned out money a handful of times, several of which were extremely temporary (got repaid within a day). Our main way of spending money is in over a thousand coin chunks from big events. I'd kind of like to see a more active Treasury that plays a part in the lives of the members.
That said, I realize that many people have everything they need. I can't think of anything else to get, and I'm sure that this is the case for several others. I'm not sure what the Treasury can do for these cases. Maybe the emphasis should be switched over to clan events, from helping members.
Thoughts?

What about shiny daggers? Those are what? 5,000? And I think you need a metal or 2...
That would put a huge dent in our tresaury!
I'm not too interested in a shiny dagger myself since myself and other fighters can just train atkus. But I think a shiny dagger is useful for healers to tag as I understand it, these daggers have a higher atkus but low darkus.
I guess it'd be useful for fighters too...
They wear out too. I don't think they wear out that often - I guess it depends how often you use it. I think you get a message that it was worn - then you should go get it sharpened in the Smythus hut.

I personally tend to avoid taking loans, as the feeling of being in debt drags me down like an anchor. This is not to say I will not do so someday in the future...but it will not be something i ever jump at. My shiny dagger wore twice in an ooc week. it is quite possible i have had bad luck, and quite possible they are made with the same shoddy workmanship as chains.

I don't generally use the clan treasury for purchase of large items, but what I'll often do is ask to borrow money to help me replace broken items more quickly. Such as when I break a chain and I don't have enough money to fix it I might borrow a couple hundred coins to make up the difference and money hunt hard for a few days to pay it back.
Personally I don't think it's bad if our treasury is not overly heavily used. I see it as kind of a protection against things going wrong, to help our members out when they fall on hard times or are having difficulty covering their expenses, not necessarily something which needs to be used up on a regular basis. I also like the idea of having enough funds to cover clan event purchases.
I do think it might not hurt to use it more for our new exile programs. Perhaps we should add to our 20c new exile donation with a 100c donation to any new healer who has earned their white shirt to assist with the purchase of a sunstone, or something like that. Or we could hold our own raffles or other events to give nice items to new exiles.
Regarding the SS wear, it is completely random each time you use it, except that thinkto is significantly less likely to wear than a think and there are modifying factors which may reduce likelihood but don't stop it from happening. It can wear on the first day or not for the first year. Fixing one level of wear costs 500c from Zorton I believe.

it costs 100 coins to resharpen a dagger. I think we should hearby refer to "treasury money" as "WindyBucks

WindyBucks! I like it!
So Aerick, you mentioned that we should use our WindyBucks more...
What are some ideas you have for the members?
Aerick

As I see it, our clan has three major uses of WindyBucks

Aerick...you sparked a thought in my noggin...
Question: What does a newbie, especially AMs, need the most?
Answer: Shares in experience...without a doubt.
A way for us to get our name into peoples minds--->

It does sound like a neat idea. The only issue is that some of our shares really aren't that valuable for the most part (at least those of us who are seriously slaughtering these days or our healers who aren't fighting much). I still think it would be a fun idea, but it would be more symbolic than anything else. Hopefully the poor new exile doesn't get too confused by all the shares and not know who to share back.

The warm and cozy feeling would make it worthwhile even if it did not amount to much experience...and an AM can always use a couple shares!

I agree completely. I think we should focus on AMs and possibly JMs (why limit it to newbies?). Shares increase the strength of mystic abilities, and when we all fall in the Abyss on an "investigative hunt," they're gonna need those powers <G>

What is everyones view on Tinderboxes?
Should we outfit all members of WoD with a box? They may be a RP device...which isn't so bad...maybe once I can actually keep the fish I catch with my rod, I will be able to cook them.

I saw someone (maybe it was Bigfat) burning a log of wood in town. I suspect that it was courtesy of a tinderbox. Naturally, the Treasury will hook Investigations up with one (if desired), so we can definitively find out what's up with them and all their uses.

What I know right now is that you use them to burn wood (we invented fire! w00p!) and you place them. Anyone who touches them gets hurt, but they eventually get stomped out.
Anybody know if the boxes get used up? Or is it jus tthe wood?

So would it light up places like the dark cave by the river tunnel or the undine cave?
How do you get them?
If one has the night option turned on (say 100%), does it keep the area under the fire bright?
Althus - better get investigating! :)

Tinderboxes are buyable in the lower E field for 100c. They do *not* serve as any form of a light source, just burn logs. I'll investigate "soon"

Just so people don't go insane looking in the east field, the tinderboxes are for sale in a hut in the east farms (southern east farms)... :)
I didn't buy one yet - Aerick expects me to pay back the money I owe WoD or something like that... :)
