Hi
I've noticed that Elenis organizes hunts for newbies in the undine hut sometimes. I've helped him several times during the last and this zodiac as a healer. Yesterday Koric was there too! So if you're a healer and are bored, you could check the undine hut. :) It seems that it's a great place for newbies to get ranks pretty fast. Also if you're the healer there you won't be bored since you can heal them almost constantly! *giggles*

My only observation about those hunts is that there seems to be little to now instruction. Some of the new exiles need their knees broken, or some fighting tactics. I think we should make that a priority, and also perhaps commend Elenis somehow.

I too have noticed an increase of newbies hunting in groups in the U.H.
Is Elenis organizing these hunts, or perhaps he is just checking in on the hunt-in-progress? One of my alter egos joined in for a while until against advice, newbies started charging into the dark cave.
One lesson that is easily learned in U.H. is the practice of "running" the undine while healers do their work on the fallen.

Elenis sunstones unguilded exiles to invite them to come to the hut for the hunts (I assume that this is how it works because I have a young alter ego walking around occassionally, and Elenis usually gets an SS to me about the hut when he is there...even not knowing that it is "me").
I was with Aerick the other day helping out as a healer in the hut...and I heartily agree with him about some tactics instruction. This is actually a current debate on the Tan board as I am also pushing the clan to improve tactics as a whole (I have a whole plethora of personal bad habits in fighting, but since I hunt mostly with Lords, I get to watch and learn from people who know what they are doing).
I get a bit frustrated because, sadly, most new exiles do not seem to want to hear advice on fighting, especially from a mere healer...

I'm new to these islands, but no virgin to battlin'--no siree! Somethin' I've noticed, 'pon my arrival, is a wide spread trend of condescendin' instruction. There'z lottsa' preachin', but not so much teachin'.
My half-cent, since <digging around in his pockets> thatz about all I have.
Anywayz.. I loved your meeting and hunt. Hope to do more again.

Interesting point. I'm not sure if there's much that can be done about condescention, though. An instructor never knows how much a new exile has already been taught, and some of us tend to just rattle off the 'Top Ten' list, which can certainly come across as condescending if it is mostly already known.
On the other hand, some new exiles just don't get it. You tell them to not rush the monsters and swing until they drop ten times and they still don't listen. I sure get snippy in that kind of situation, especially since it's my health they're sapping as I heal them.

/action Repeats his new-exile mantra: "Wait for the critter to swing, go in and swing once then back out. Wait for the critter to swing, go in and swing once and back out. Wait for the critter to swing, go in and swing once and back out."
/action then follows up his new-exile mantra with his new-exile mantra II, "OK, if you had listened to me, I wouldn't have to Raise you now."
Hmm...that IS condescending isn't it? Oh well...I drove Mongo and Fist (and Aerick) nuts on the other end of things when I refused to listen to them when I first got here, so I suppose this is the Lok'Groton version of the old mother's curse: "I hope you have new exiles just like you were!"

I notice in undine hut, that people no know trick of bringing monsters up into hut. People go down the stairs too early and die or they bring up no or too many monsters.
The person that lures should get monsters chasing him then step behind the stairs in the very south west part of the cavern. After 1 or 2 undine go up stairs, he should also go up, so no more monsters will follow.
I wonder, is bad technique of new fighters because they know that if they fall they just be healed anyway? So they no care they fall? Not sure what to do about this.

Make clear that you will heal them by preference of how well they are following directions and/or fighting correctly.
Obviously, this isn't nice to start out with, but when one of the little buggers has you almost dead because everytime he gets on his feet he lures a herd of undine up and you have to just heal, and heal, and heal until your heart begins to pump in time to the "woo-woo-woo" noise, it helps curb them a touch.

I suspect that many new fighters take awhile to use the techniques they're shown because it's just so much new stuff to remember. They're so overwhelmed with just staying alive and keeping track of all the new people they're meeting that it's hard for them to process all the information they're given. I know when I was new people kept telling me things but there was just so much going on I had trouble keeping it all straight.
