Hi
So I'm assuming we'll be bringing forward the ideas Aerick brought up about wind names for stuff like:
- circle level
- profession
- other abilities (pathfinding, skinning)
--------------------------
I think the latest that has been discussed for this is as follows:
profession:
------------
fighters could be tempest: "An extensive current of wind, rushing with great velocity and violence, and commonly attended with rain, hail, or snow; a furious storm"
healers could be zephyr: "soft, gentle wind"
mystics could be solar wind?
circle levels:
---------------
The higher the circle level, the stronger the wind.
1st circle: breeze
2nd circle: gust
3rd circle: squall
4th circle: gale
other abilities:
------------------
pathfinders: ?
skinners: ?
chinook for one of these? It sounds cool :)
Any other suggestions?
Are there some words you don't like or don't understand?
Any better words?
Corwin and others have several other wind type names/titles in the clan name section under defenders of the dawn so you can look at more discussion there.
dictionary.com is a nice place to look stuff up if you have a word you don't understand.
I liked this idea when Aerick first suggested it and I think it would add a nice little title to each exiles name. You could put it in your licenses/tattoo thing...
It would add our own little spin to the titles levels already associated with clan lord.

We need to change 3

Ummm, Konoko, we still need distinguishers for Master/Mistress and Lord/Lady
Aerick

We could go with a directional indicator for Mistress/Lord. Perhaps North/South and East/West. So either
North - Lord
South - Master
West - Mistress
East - Lady
My major constrain is to not risk offending anyone with a gender-biased system. Maybe just North/South is Lord/Lady, East/West is Misstress/Master, and each person can pick which one they want to be?

Right, the above seems to be not at all clear. What my revised idea was is that two directions be Master/Misstress, and that once one attains that level, they can pick either of the two directions to describe themselves. The downside is that the system is then non-uniform, but it leaves some room for personal preference.

Aerick and I had a little meeting today to talk about the Winds of Dawn member titles.
These titles are just a way of stating your circle level, profession, and other abilities. We've come up with a draft so far of whjat we've thought of. Please post a reply and let us know what you think of these titles.
Lord/Lady and Master/Mistress:
As you can see in the posts above, Aerick has posted titles for mistress/master and lady/lord. The north/south, east/west titles sound fine to me.
Professions:
These winds are a description for your profession.
Fighter - Tempest
Healer - Zephyr
Mystic - Solar Wind (I think we might need something different here)
Circles:
These winds describe the level of the member. Weaker wind at the start and then stronger winds as the level is higher.
1st - Puff
2nd - Breeze
3rd - Gust
4th - Gale
Abilities:
For abilities we were thinking of having a type of wind for stuff like pathfinding and skinning.
50 and higher Skea - Levanter
Pathfinding - Chinook
Once we get these decided, we can get a page up at the web site so we'll know how all these titles can be used...
For instance, I would be something like:
A West Tempest Breeze.
Also a Levanter and a Chinook.
Another example would be:
Gust of Tempest, Chinook
for a third circle fighter with some pathfinding.
These could be things we'd list on the members page at www.windsofdawn.org. Also, we could have these in our tattoo/licenses thing.
How does that sound for everyone?

And we'll all have little laminated secret decoder cards to remember what the names mean...
Actually, it sounds great to this South Zephyr Breeze!

As far as a PFer, I feel like a draft.

Just checking back on this idea, do we actually want to do this? I am all for it, and have heard only positive feedback, but the member's info in the clan scrolls haven't gotten change (except Konoko and I). It looks kinda silly to just have the two of us doing it, and I at least would do better if everyone were doing it. Like peer pressure!
(C'mon, you know you want to. Everyone's doing it, man.)

I still think it's a good idea!
People wouldn't have to use every indicator if they don't want to. For instance, you could just say you are a Zephyr Breeze without going into further detail if that's easier...
Perhaps if a little web page was out together explaining all this.
I'll work on something and put it up on my web scroll. Kiriel can add it or a modified version or whatever to the winds scroll when she gets back...
I'll post here once it is up...

Hmm, nice in theory, but it just seems over complicated to this Zephyr Breeze Levanter Chinook.
What will we add for Loovma Geer abilities? Or extra languages (hot air!)? I speak Halfling and Sylvan, and I intend to learn more over time. Does that make me a Zephyr Breeze Levanter Chinook Blow Hard?
The game seems to be adding new abilities pretty steadily. Can we keep up with Windy appellations?
Do we want to?
I think Gray's point about a score card was right on.
If we need titles, I suggest we keep them oriented to clan offices or clan participation.

P.S. Nunul - "As far as a PFer, I feel like a draft." ROTFL! Good one!

Or, as a completely different approach, abandon all defined meanings and allow each clan member to come up with their own clan "title/nickname".

Hrm, ressurecting a dead thread, I think...
What about the 5th and 6th circle now?
And does the Chinook title apply if you have trained a single lesson with that crazy hermit?
And those folks who are professional un-professions?
The only thing I can suggest is 'Drift' for Mystics, since Solar was a little... er.. odd.
Others windy words to use could be:
Simoon, Whiff (*grin* Maybe for Mystics? ;) ), Sirocco, Blast, Whirlwind, Cyclone and Hurricane.
So. Er. Yes. :)
Toodles!

This is an old thread! :)
There are some good wind title ideas there Elenis.
Any more suggestions form people?
We do have to get some 5th and 6th circle wind titles. It's all a progression thing so something higher than gale for 5th and 6th...
I think the Chinook title can be used a number of different ways. You could say something like 3rd chamber Chinook or a Chinook for NWF.
And you're right - we should get something for the professional un-professions as you call them... :)

Ok, so how about Blast for 5th and Cyclone for 6th? Or is Blast just even comparable to Gale. They seem similar to me, depending on whether you're talking about a 'gale-force wind' or a 'arctic blast'...
Or maybe keep "Solar" for Mystic and use "Drift" for professional unprofessions?
Konoko

I like Blast and Cyclone. I think something different for Mystics would be good.
Drift kind of seems fitting for professional unprofessions. They're kind of like drifting through life experimenting/dabbling in different areas and then moving on to something else.
Drablak or someone mentioned that there are sub-levels for Mystics and that a full Mystic is only first circle or something like that. If this is true, then we would also need to add something before the Puff level.

I was thinking Latin for the titles but before I think real hard about them, I thought about asking first before I do anything.

Here are my ideas...
Fighters/Healers
1st: primo : first, at first, at the beginning, at the start.
2nd: secundus : second.
3rd: tertius : third.
4th: quartus : fourth.
5th: peritus : skilled, expert.
6th: potissimus : best of all, chief, principal.
Fighter: pugnacitas : the desire to fight, pugnacity.
Healer: curatio : attention / medical attention, healing, curing.
Mystics
Apprentice: discipulus : disciple, student, learner, pupil.
Journeyman: disco : to learn, become acquainted with.
Full: erudio : to instruct, teach, educate.

I haven't seen Rincewind in quite some time.
As for the titles, it was just an alternative idea to the titles we have now. Considering I'm at -1 circle for a mystic I wanted to avoid having the title "suction." Plus, latin sounds neat but I can understand why you wouldn't want to use it.
Oh well, anyone else have some ideas?

Well, whats da Latin words fer some o' da terms we hath now? Ah curious ta know.
