View Full Version : Fire Island Exploratory Hunt

I have been speaking with Lundar about the possibility of an exploratory hunt into the Devil's Passes within the Voolkon area on Fire Isle.
I took a short and ill fated trip there with Lundar after the Fun'islar. It became apparent that both powerful healers and fighters will be needed to pierce the hordes of critters. This seems like a very exciting area, as Lundar has found a number of new snells.
The next 2 weekends OOC are looking dim for me, so I would hope that at the very earliest we could commit to July 1st for an all-out assult.
If anyone would be interestedd in a late night exploration (midnight EST) friday or saturday night, please contact me and I'll try to set something up with Lundar.
Kiriel's name was mentioned quite a few times during our journey, both due to her knowledge of the isle, and her chaining ability. I feel both will be needed.
***I would stress...***
This is an EXPLORATORY venture. There are plenty of critters to kill, but in order to make progress, all who come must clearly understand that wandering will not be tolerated. Critters will be killed on a need-be basis. There are plenty of perils ahead without looking for additional ones.

I would definitely be interested in going, and midnight EST is perfect for me, although if the day/night opening thing is true with McBollie, we should make sure that works out timewise. Assuming we plan it in advance I can pretty much guarantee my availability.

Okee,
Now who has a calibrated Puddlewatch?
This Friday or Saturday are good for me at midnight EST. Whichever translates into daylight Puddletime would be peachy.

I will try to be there. On a recent FI expidition, I was able to open the PF at the end of the maze before sunrise. So daylight is not the key. Two possible alternatives:
1) position of the moon in the sky.
2) must be AM (not PM) puddleby time

oh oh July 1? hmm too bad: at this time, I will be for an extend period in the library (ooc: vacations) for at least 2 zodiacs.
I am still VERY interested in exploring FI/DI, in fact it is still my prefered place to hunt/explore.
-----------------
about the McBollie caves:
Do you remember the strange thing when we were there to explore with TAN? Aethelred and Athala (both at maximum with the marsh hermite) were unable to open it - and to open the other difficult paths. I was able to open all the paths. Why? I don't have more training then them... is it not the same for everyone. Is there a different "good" time for everyone?
yesterday ooc I go there to test if I was still able to open it.
I entered the cave, wandered a little (ooc: 1-2 minutes) and tried to go back (the exit to go back is also a difficult path)... But it was not possible for me to go back! I was trapped!
I stayed there, looking closely to the path and retried several times: no luck! ... I waited there a longer time (not so long:

Err...is this exploration open to non-clan-members?
If so, count me in... I have been wanting to go back to FI to explore for some time, but it is increasingly difficult to find people (read: fighters) to go with me as the Valley and a a few other palces seem to be drawing all the attention.
Also, did you guys note on the Newgroup where HGM mentioned taht he didn't think anyone had explored more than 75% of the islands yet?
Aethelred
p.s.
Aside from Lundar, in terms of designated fallers...err, mystics, I know that both Popo and Wystii are extremely in Firey Devil's Island.

BTW, if you hadn't guessed from my previous post....my typing rather blows (rather an embarassing admission for a guy who makes at least part of his living at writing).

I am almost always willing to participate in a journey to FI. Please don't hesitate to invite me if there is room in your party.

According to my miscalibrated Puddlewatch...
OOC: Midnight Friday Eve = 9:22AM Puddletime
OOC: Midnight Saturday Eve = 11:33AM Puddletime
Please, if anyone has an accurate sundial, could you update these times?
Aethelred, all are welcome, but pray, keep it under our collective hat for the meantime. (as far as a public announcement. Lundar is providing us with a rare glimpse of a virgin territory, and it would be nice to keep hordes of exiles from rank whoring there prior to a full exploration)

the above link should take you to Lundar's diary where he discusses the Devlish Passes.

I would like to participate in such a hunt... *smiles*
Sadly, i will prolly not be able to make it (due to OOC timezones *sigh*)
If I can though, and numbers are reasonable... then i would relish the opportunity to investigate further.
I would also be willing to discuss what i know about entering the Fire Drake Lair, but must caution that i agree with Leogic's feelings in this matter and am therefore reluctant to encourage exiles to enter such a region.
My investigations are continuing and ... if possible ... may i have some record of this (and any other) journey into these regions *shrugs*. I realise that i do not know as much as others ... *smiles* ... Lundar for instance *smiles*.
As for the day/night suggestion... please, i only mentioned it because i found it to be peculiar... it seems that other pecularities have afflicted others (for example, Farhope and Delirium *smiles*). What it means, or may mean is anyone's guess at this point... it is just that perhaps awareness of the differences that may be faced with different times may assist in the discovery of something important. *smiles*
In any case, I wish all of you well in your explorations.
May the Goddess bless you

Wystii, for those of us (ok, maybe I'm the only one) ignorant to Leogic's theory/ideology/feelings on the Fire Drake region, could you please share that information with us?
Much thanks,

Well, I'm not entirely sure how many can commit at this point...so...
I will be awaiting whomever chooses to go in the hut on the north shore of FI at midnight Friday.

I'm sorry if I seem a little rude by not contributing my feelings (or Leogic's) to the post. *sigh*
I must confess that I am a rather private person and would prefer face to face contact for discussions about my feelings. *sigh*
I posted because I wish to help. *smiles* I do not know if you know how to enter the lair and offer to tell of the way in. I will NOT post such details in such a public forum, however. *sigh*
I was hoping that someone such as Lundar would already know how to reach this place. *smiles* However, if he does not... or someone wishes to explore it... I may be able to assist.
As a compromise I would be willing to discuss it (my feelings etc) at a clan meeting or similar face to face environment. *smiles*
While it may not seem so, I am a rather private person and do not feel comfortable discussing my motives in a place where everyone can read them. *sigh*... I apologise for my weakness and ask only for your tolerance with my lack of confidence.
May the Goddess bless you

H'loi all. I think yi've all seen Leogic's recent letter to ClanLords.com, but in case yi haven't, he gave a link to a most interesting Vision Stone:
http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Workshop/3289/when_animals_attack.hqx
The Vision Stone was taken by Leogic when he was carried of to the Drake Den by a hungry Fire Drake. This confirms for me that the location of the Drake Den is on snell D4 according to my map(well, actually not the one currently on my scroll. A new map should be up "soon"). This is probably one of the few snells of Devil's Isle that I have not been able to explore fully, and I think it is time we found the secret of the Fire Drakes, and possibly the Voolcons.
ooc:
I think that this weekend(Saturday or Sunday) would be a good date to explore Devil's Island, and the Drake Den, though I'm not sure about any times. Since we may be facing multiple Fire Drakes, some powerful help might be called for. Anyway, if you guys can schedule something, I can probably come. Otherwise, I'll probably just whip up whatever help I can get.

Nunul, Kiriel, Delirium, Lundar, Corwin, Mehan, Farhope, and so many other fantastic people!! The venture to FI was great fun! I only wish I could have hung on longer!
ooc: not sure how much I will be around the rest of this weekend, but to the rest of the dads out there: Happy Father's Day! Take care friends, and thanks again for so many memorable nights like tonight.

F'nom tan'ki to all yi gusty exiles who let me join in yi exploration and hunt in the Crater and Drake Den last night. It was a blast! Our party was virtually indestructable! Sorry for leading us to our demise towards the end. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did!
OOC: I hear that the Crater and Drake Den area are not yet completed, so maybe we can revisit the place again next Storm, and see if anything is new; though I would be happy to join in a DI party anytime. I also heard that HGM wants to keep the area secret for now, so I think it might be best not to release Vision Stones and such the show how to reach the volcano area.
Anyway, once again it was a fantastic adventure, and if yi ever need a Mystic/Pathfinder to aid yi in yi explorations of Devil's Isle, feel free to contact me any time!
