Ann GM came to the fairgounds and offered healers new moonstones, rings, cads, and staffs. She said she would be in the lands several more times to make this offer. You must already have the device to take up her offer and you must have room in your pack for each one (and you have to keep your old one). These new devices are designated "test" and those who take them are supposed to report any strangeness via a "bug" prayer. Ann said the new ring and cad work well together, but having neither, I am not sure what this means. Both Mehan and I have "test moonstones" and Lilly arrived as I was leaving so she may have taken the offer as well. One warning given to us by Ann was that, when healing fallens, the horus skills of those using the old devices would not combine properly with those using the "test" devices. Since not all have the new divices, watch out for this!

Did it ever come out what exactly these things were testing? I was told that all our old things had been replaced by the new things, but I didn't notice any difference [that I recall].

I suppose it fixed the bug some people experienced where their Slyphstone Ring didn't trigger when they were cadding, but were the changes publicized? Or behind the scenes?

Hi

Oh I have yet another question about the Slyphstone ring: As I understand it, the healing of the Slyphstone is 'activated' whenever I'm wearing something BUT NOT the moonstone? So whether I'm wearing the cad, the pendant (lol), the chain or my GS (haha :) the ring would always heal me? [until I'm at full heal]

Replying to a couple points here:

1) the new devices - from what I understand the new devices are standard healing thingiemabobs with one big exception, they have apparently rewritten the code for them from the ground up. If that is true it is a nice change as they are not merely patching old and presumably semi-defective code. I could be wrong however, but that is what I have heard...

2) the sylphstone ring - the ring works at all times I believe. When your spirit is at full, and your health less than 100% it will give a selfheal pulse. It will keep doing that until your health is full...note, that is why high respia makes this more efficient. Testing by a Tan healer indicated that sylphstone healing was just about exactly half as fast as self-healing with a moonstone, but then it works without having to equip anything. Great for chainers or fighting healers... I have wanted to use it for some time, but I just do not have the time currently to train it, unless I (further) delay studying Horus. In the past it has NOT worked while cadding, but it sounds as if that problem is being addressed with the new items, if so the ring becomes more valuable (as switching to moonstone to self-heal during cadding is awkward).

The Slyphstone ring will trigger a healing everytime your spirit gets to 100%. Well, it won't heal you if you're fully healed, but it still works when you have your moonstone in hand.

It's just a better idea to use the moonstone, as it's more efficient.

Hi!

1. Sorry for starting kind of a subthread! I should have started a new one instead.

2. Thanks for your answer, Aethelred! I've decided to start studying with Sylpha next time I leave the library. Half the speed sounds - while not that much - more than worth the 30 ranks for me. Especially since I can wear the ring all the time. (well, I *hope* I can!)
