View Full Version : Chaining/Selfheal questions

Hi!
I got my first chain some days ago and chained 2 people successfully so far. But it seems as if my macro (ooc, gasp!) fails sometimes. Well, maybe it's just because I'm not used to chaining as of yet.. (although I have _tons_ of experience in being chained <g>) If you happen to be a chainer, can you please send me/post your chain macro? (/ponder Kiri, Kiri! :) I'd like to compare it with mine and maybe adapt some ideas.
Also, it happened to me that all of a sudden I lost the exile I was chaining. Then I realized that switching to my moonstone and selfheal is not a good idea while chaining someone. (I wish chains would be left-handed items!) I'm thinking of training with Sylpha (sp?) to be able to selfheal with a slyphstone (sp?) while I chain somone. I guess that would work? I think that 30 ranks are required with Sylpha? Do I need some Awaria too? Lots of questions! :)
Ideas? Comments? Shrieking epitaphs?
Sargon =)

If you plan on chaining, a Sylphstone is a good investment (and last I checked it was just 30 ranks of Sylpha). Another thing to remember is that by chaining folks, you have a body behind you to protect you from critters, so use that to your advantage. In fact, if you are on your way to chain someone, sometimes killing something and sticking it on your chain is a good way to protect your back on the way there (might be useful in areas like the savannah).
Personally my macro is extremely simple. If I already have a chain equipped, I do "u" for /use. If I don't have my chain equipped, I use "ch" which equips the chain, then chains the person. This works pretty well, although there are many fancy macros out there for the purpose (might be some good ones at http://www.clmacros.com/).
Mainly when you try to chain someone and it doesn't work it's for one of 2 reasons:
1. The person is already on someone else's chain
2. You are too far away (usually I can chain from about one exile-length away, which is useful for ditching rats)
Main reasons you might drop folks are:
1. The person falls asleep
2. You tried to go through an area where chains slip (such as the exits of Orionwood and the Badlands)

The sylphstone ring does not work as well as a normal moonstone in self healing - it costs more respia and doesnt heal quite as much. If you have a good self-healing ability, it should prove useful in chaining. I have found it to be more of a convenience then something to rely on, however. it has indeed saved me on more then one occasion, but thats also because i throw myself into crazy situations and swing out like a wild woman. (something i don't think youll be doing!).
I advise spirtus and respia over awaria if you want to heal yourself better - then you get the benefit of learning all the basic trainers as well as your self healing.

Hi!
Thanks for the input! I've not yet decided whether I want to study with Sylpha or not.. Problem is that I have less Respia than any other healer I can think of. (All my Respia lessons are from Eva. And zero ranks with Spirtus [But then, he's a fighter trainer =)]) So I'm not sure whether it's worth it. Wish I could try it out! (maybe on the test-server thingy, if it's still up?) Silly thing is that in situations when I decide to chain a fallen (instead of healing hir) it's usually _because_ of monsters nearby and then self-healing is crucial. So I think I will end up training with Sylpha..
Sorry, I'm rambling here. :)

Spirtus is most definitely a healer trainer. Ask any fighter. From this point on, I seriously doubt any fighter will train Spirtus, in lieu of Rodnus. My fighter has pondered training Spirtus (he's nearing 100 Histia) many times, and each time, a healer or 4th-5th circle fighter has stepped in and told him to wait until he can train with Rodnus.
Although my 50 Spirit (soon to get more) doesn't seem to do much for me, my other healer has about 450 (And not much else but Respia) and he selfheals in less than a minute from 0 to full. Even with an ultrapowerful moonstone selfheal, though, Sylpha is useless without loads of respia. (Sespus/Spirtus affect MS selfheal, Respia SS selfheal).

Hmm, I do think that Spirtus is good for a fighter if, like me,
- she has lot of training with Histia
- she likes to feel as she is helping the healers who try to heal her, and she has no training with Troilus
- she is far from being able to train with Rodnus (I think that, with my crazy training style, I have to wait 3-4 ic years more before making 3 circle :-)
- she likes to regularly ask to Master Hekus if she can enter in the healer's guild only to visit (yes I do that :-)
Master Spirtus says that I am one of his better pupils... so, as Althus says: "Ask any fighter"... for example Farhope ;-)

So, who is this Rodnus, and what does he teach? Eh?

Hi!
Wow, Farhope! You're a better student with Spirtus! That surely is impressive! Now I only hope you didn't train with him because I teased you!

Hehe...
I used to tease her unmercifully...the only exiles who take longer to heal than Farhope are Mongo and Thuja [;)]
Aeric, Rodnus is a 4

Does Rodnus just increase the Faustus? Is it worthwhile? Do many fighters train it? Does it compensate with Respia at all, or just bleed the healer dry quicker? I want to know it all!

From the healer end, it seems like it just "adds" Faustus. In other words it can hurt if you are not expecting it. Have you ever healed Ledward Vicious? His 400 Spirtus gives him a decent chunk of Rodnus (the only way a healer can get it), and if you heal him take a gander at your spirit and health bars...they go down purty quick. My Respia:Faustus ratio runs at about 2.5:1, and healing Leddy still causes my spirit to drain.
At any rate, not many people actually train Rodnus specifically. Most of the fighters who are able to do it average 100 or less Histia anyway, so it won't make a big difference. The main people who study it (through Spirtus) are healers who plan to do quite a bit of rodding. With our large Higgrus totals it also seems to be of more direct benefit to us brave & noble healers rather than the sissy fighters who think it is better "to not get hit" than to be able to take 10 LSW bites and still hold a bue rock to someone's forehead.
Cheers,

I understand you comment about all those other sissy fighters, but I am at toes or close to it with Histia! And I'll be getting some more too eventually along with getting some more spiritus. I don't have a lot of troilus either (35 i think) so I want to get healed quick. Histia will always help when you come across some monsters that your detha won't help block. You need the histia so you can gracefully retreat from the way tough monsters out there...
No worries - I'll excuse your comment... :)
Maybe all you healer types should get like a boatload of faustus so us fighters don't have to wait around to be healed... :)

Hey, I WOULD get a boatload of Faustus, but all you fighters are off there getting your tags in and not protecting us healers, so I need my Higgy to keep me up when death comes up from behind before the fighters notice it! If you did your jobs properly, we could help you out better.

Ahhh! Is that the way it works?
You don't need your pendant or your virgil training then, eh?
Sell it and untrain and then get all fasutus and higgrus! :)

Sheesh Konoko!
I'd like to have to have more faustus! (or any other non-fighter trainer) It's just that we can't train in everything at the same time! :) I've invested quite some ranks in chaining lately. So in case I can't heal you fast enough (or not at all because of lack of Horus) I can at least chain you and show you around! =)

ok, I'll keep away from giving advice on something like healer training which I know nothing about! :)
But chain rides do sound like fun Sargon! Kiri's chain tours around fire island were always nice... :)
