View Full Version : Missing Officers

I've been thinking it's time for the clan to establish a policy on missing officers. This seems to be becoming more of a problem of late. I think the abscence of Nugget has hurt our hunt scheduling and it would be best to have a new hunt coordinator given that I haven't seen him in ages (in CL or on the board) and haven't heard from him either. Nugget- if you're reading, let us know you're still around!
I propose that the clan establish a policy that clanmates let us know or drop in and say hi if they'll be gone for more than a month. I don't think this should be too onerous- most folks know if they'll be gone that long in advance, and if they don't hopefully they can make a minute to post a hello. I think that clan officers who expect to be gone that long should let us know so a temporary officer can be appointed in their place. If a clan officer is gone for more than a month without communication of any kind, I think the office should be considered vacant and we should attempt to refill it.
I know this may seem a bit harsh, but I do think that having officers around really makes a difference in the level of clan activity, so I hope a policy of this nature would help reduce the missing officer syndrome and perhpas get some clanmates to make more of an effort to let us know when they're going to disappear.
What do you guys think?

First off, I think it should be more akin to two weeks without notice.
Otherwise, I very much favor frequent overturning of positions. OOC stuff just hits us from behind often enough that it isn't a show of disliking someone, so much as removing a mental burden from their shoulders. I feel that we've stagnated a bit already, and some offices changing hands every coupla weeks would keep new ideas flowing.
So yes, I firmly support a system that replaces officers easily (but not hostily! They have to understand that it isn't an attack).

by 'two weeks without notice' I do of course mean 'if they disappear for two weeks without giving any notice' we should start the process to get someone else in there (even if only as an interim). NOT 'after two weeks, we dump them without giving them any warning'.
I'm just never sure how things translate if you're not inside my head.

Kiriel, Aerick,
I think you both made your points about as diplomatic as possible. And I have to agree.
I also want to say, because it's late and people tend to say/type things they normally wouldn't type/say late at night.... I'm not a religious person, but I always tend to pray for those who unexpectedly fall off the face of the internet-world. I am hopelessly pessimistic--I always tend to expect the worse--so when I don't see someone for a long time, I tend to start wondering shitty things. So please... seriously... if you plan on disappearing for a long while, or leave and would prefer to remain gone from people you have met in the world of ones and zeros, just drop a quick line and say so to the people you think might care the most.
Sorry... just thinking about an old friend.

I like the odea as well. You may begin by replacing me as Membership Coordinator. Then I definetly agree that Nugett should be replaced as well.I didnt even know that he was hunt coordinator.
I miss the little rock and wish he would return
Have we lost our newsletter writer as well??

P.S.
I am worried about you Nuvali. Someone shrouded with a black cloak always summons up images of evil, skulldugery, and strangness.
I dont believe that we have any such worries with you but I am concerned none the less.

Ummm ... Goric, do you recall what the election issues were last time we did a fresh election of all positions? We can't get people to fill the spaces. I think the platform I ran under was "Please vote for someone else. No really." and see where that got me.
But on a more serious note, there is a vast hesitancy among clan members to become officers. I don't quite know why. Is it because it seems like too much work? Or that you're unprepared for it? Or lazy? Or what?
Perhaps all the officers serve too long, so new people think they'd be roped into a position for a year or more. Let's kick people out left and right and show them that they aren't breaking into a rigid system, but interacting in a dynamic flow. =)
I'd love to see the Investigations department revitalized.

hrm, who doesn't have a position?
Technically I'm the "assistant to Aerick just in case he doesn't show up or we need to take something out of the account and he's not around to do so."
Long name, big task =D I'm very happy with it though. I don't have to do anything.

Mehan, you have it SO backwards! Your job is to "Do Aerick's work for him so he can slack off and still look good".
It's so hard to find good help these days!
