View Full Version : Mirror Quest...

Hi Winds

I went and read all the mirror quest that was in my text log that everyone was discussing at the impromptu clan meeting after the Don't Blow It game.

And Nuvali mentioned in another thread:
"There are so many other topics I want to explore, including what Aerick and I have been obsessing over for the past 48 hours (i.e. the mirror quest, and the Separ)."

I was in no shape to ask questions at the meeting on Sunday so I'll ask my questions here! :)

- So how did the investigation thing go on Sunday?
- Where did you go?
- What did you find? (not find?)
- What did you rule out?
- What do you think needs further investigation?
- Where is the chandelier that Aerick and Nuvali were taling about?
- What is the separ (and where is it)?

I look forward to helping out in this mirror thing. I just couldn't handle it on Sunday... :)

Ok, I did some looking on the Puddleby Encyclopedia page and found out more about the Separ:
http://www.puddleopedia.org/listings/Separ.html

Now I have more questions:
- Does anyone know more about this than is stated on this above scroll?
- What are yout theories on what this Separ is?
- Who has been dewed that we know of? Is there a list somewhere?
- Has anyone in WoD been dewed?

So Votenkath is in a castle on noth and protects the castle from Qual. By the way, is there more than one castle on noth?

All I really know is that the mirror leads to a mirror room. Is the theory that the mirror room is in Votenkath's castle and we cannot travel there because whatever Votenkath uses to prevent Qual from entering prevents us from entering via the mirror?

Are there other mirrors? Perhaps Qual has access to one as well?

So many good questions, Konoko. And so many things to mull over. Hopefully, in the coming days, I'll get more time to throw out my thoughts--if anyone wants to hear them--and maybe Aerick would also like to share some of our discussions we had this weekend.

Answering your question about how this weekend's venture to the trool mines went:

I honestly don't remember very well. By that time I was so incredibly exhausted that I'm not sure I was seeing things rationally. What I do remember is we found two safe rooms (one in each mine), and we attempted to see what would happen if a mystic occupied each room, alone, at the same time.

Now (keeping in perspective my state of mind), I felt like we were occupying the wrong room in the east mine (and maybe even west mine).

From what I recall from an adveture that Gray and I were on a month or two ago, Gray and I were with a mystic who found a passageway that required a mystic to deactivate the illusion. The rooms that were used this weekend did not require any mystic or pathfinder, and (again taking into account my state of mind), it didn't even "feel" like we were in the correct location.

To add to that, the room in the west mine also didn't require a mystic or pf to open.

Now... I'm going to throw something else out on this matter. It is something I spoke with Aki about a long time ago when the first teleportation stone was discovered in OC3.

Here was my theory:

The stone in the middle of the trool village (the one with the crescent moon on it) appears to almost be a central spot if you drew a line from the east mine to the west mine.

What if part of the answer to this puzzle is subterranean--under that rock? And what if the only way to get "under" that stone was via teleportation of some kind from one portion of the east trool mine to the other? Or...better yet, wouldn't it make sense that there be some kind of central connecting point between the east mine and west mine?

Now... based on a lot of things said in the past on this entire issue, I've come to the point where I REALLY believe that the puzzle itself might not be as difficult as finding the correct people and the right time to solve this quest. And I strongly feel that the only way this puzzle will be solved is if enough qualified, patient and open-minded participants are involved. Who's "qualified"? That's the real crappy part. Who is patient? That's tough to answer, as well, and worse yet, you can have all the patient and open-minded people in the same spot willing to find answers, but if "the" required person isn't available or not willing to be open-minded, then an idea fails. And if an idea fails, then it will most likely not be tried again for a very long time.

One last thing. Why are the trools tunneling? Are they looking for something? Are they protecting something? Did they fashion the stone (with the crescent moon), or has it been there longer than they have?

Nuvali! You were supposed to answer my questions - not ask more... :)

Your ideas and theories are interesting.
I look forward to hearing more about them in the future...

It sounds like the brambles may hold a lot of answers. I was throughout the brambles umpteen times on the weekend and I didn't even really notice or think of any of these things! Much too busy getting coins and ore! :)
I barely even notice that rock there. It's just an extra snell to travel to get to the east mine from the west mine! :)

Now that Don't Blow It is thankfully over (don't get me wrong - the game was great but no more skinning for me for a long time :), I'll change my priorities...
I haven't explored those mines at all. Are we going to try on focus on these areas for future (investigative?) hunts?

Analysis of tunneling:
(OOC, this is where I wish I was 100% sure DT was being logical and rational, and not just adding hunting ground at random).

The further in they tunnel, the less productive it is. Does anyone ever find ore outside of the first snell of each tunnel? They aren't in it for the ore.

E mine goes under a SWAMP! That would be terribly unstable, and stupid for a mineshaft. The Valley is to the S, and they do go that way some, where there would be large rock deposits. But the marsh really gets me. There is no sense to it. And as I recall, they are straight tunnels. They are going somewhere.

I don't think they're mining for 'normal' reasons.

So then what are they doing? ( I have no answer )

As some of you are aware, we're mapping the east and west trool mines. There are some theories that there's something down there or whatever and a map would help!

I'm almost done the east mine with Aerick's help. I just got the screenshots from the big huge room last night and I plan to put these into the map this morning.

I will post a link to the map here when it's done.

And if Amarais Fina reads this forum, thanks for the heals and the rescue last night! It was the only time I fell when doing this mapping thing and of course it was after I was done and almost at the exit... :)

I think it's easier to map as a fighter than a healer. I started getting whiplash for all the times I'd run in, get a picture, pendant out of the things killing me, run back, get another picture or two, pendant out, run back.

But progress is still slowly occurring. Though I think it would be really cool to map the whole world. Could anyone here make a program that could take screenshots and assemble them into a map? Or something?

Aerick, you mean you pendanted out a bunch of times? Wow - that would suck. It'a a lot easier taking pics as a fighter then :)

If a saw a red kin though I just ran. The dark blue ones I just tried to avoid although that's what killed me last night (and took like 50-80 coins)... [:(]

The only problems I'm having is that colour it seems to crash when reading like 1-2 out of every 20 pics. These 1-2 pics will not open at all. So now I've got the carbon graphic converted to read in the pics but that still seems kinda buggy. I then use colour it to arrange em.

Yeah, the pendanting was kind of frustrating. I so thoroughly wished that the outpost would open and have an altar in it.

HEY!

Why can't we built altar's wherever we want? Hektus fixed the last one, can't he make new ones (with enough supplies). That would be really, really cool. Except that it might make Pendants too powerful. But if it cost 1,000,000c to get an Altar, it wouldn't be common, though one could be lugged out to the Foothills and plopped down. Then healers could flood the area, but they'd still have to get back. Hmmm....

I think that this could be really, really neat. And, say that critters would slowly break the altar, so you wanted to put it somewhere safe.

A possible abuse would be to put an altar in the 4th PF chamber, so none-PFs could get there. Doesn't matter in that case, but if there were a place where you HAVE to be a PF to enter (Gaeyl, mayhap) then it could be a problem.
