a few new things from Friday night, january 5th -
1) Axell got a message using her purgatory pendant that said "You lose your concentration and the pendant fails". She asked if this had ever happened to anyone else, and she got no reply, at least not publicly. Perhaps this is the repercussions of Tenebrion recently destroying a purg pendant?
2) The following sounds were heard across the island:

For the record: This has absolutely 100% NOTHING to do with Tenebrion. The elemental force that holds up purgatory has been on the downfall for a looong time. Ever since the Ripture War, infact.
For a long time, the Altar (the link we have to Purgatory) has been cracking. Just look at it now! Minx has said several times that the possibility that the strange force that keeps us from dying is loosing power. Some day people here may start... dying... again.
Ok, I'll stop ranting and raving now!

Althus, none of that proves that Tenebrion is not involved. He has been here longer than we have, and so may be wholly responsible (though that isn't likely).
In any case, thanks for bringing up the point that there have been problems and warnings unrelated (so far as we know) to Tenebrion.

In the lake/plains area, what type of research does Arial do?
Arial Eth'lenn says, "We are happy here. It is peaceful, and I have lots of time for my research."

umm Althus.. the Altar isnt Cracking. its bee Repaired. It was stolen by Bartok along time ago and we recoverd the pieces and that Healer guy in the temple Fixed it.

So the cracks mean a healer isn't the best at fixing things? Someone should train with engineerus or plasterus or something and fix it correctly... :)

Wrong, Ender. The Altar's condition has been degrading pretty much constantly since it was put back together after the Bartok ordeal. Master Hekus himself admitted that he didn't do the greatest job, and I'm guessing it'll need repairs sooner or later.

this was posted in comp.sys.mac.games.adventure -
"Strim my friends,
A few days ago Merlisk witnessed this event:
1/5/01 11:03:41p • A distant whine can be heard.
1/5/01 11:04:41p • The very air seems to be screaming.
1/5/01 11:05:41p • The noise stops suddenly. The silence is even more deafening."
Curious to find out more about this disturbance that Merlisk reported, I wandered around the island. There in
the infamous 'Area 51' of East Forest, I stumbled upon the cause!
See http://www.sundragonclan.com/maps/silence.html to reveal the truth!

What's up with the 2 attache guys in town?
Are they a mystic thing?
Even if they are - can someone please tell me what they do? They seem kinda goofy...

One theory I've heard is that they are an OOC test of DT's into linked monster AI. This would lead to feral hunting in packs, and other such advancements. As far as I know, this explanation is just speculation, but it kinda makes sense.
Or it could be a mystic quest.

Woo! Smarter monsters! That would make things interesting!
We hunt in packs generally so make the monsters do it too! Fun, fun! Sargon - you'll definitely nead lots of horus now! :)

Not much of a investigation.. but has anybody ever look at the possibilty we could expand the copper mine, by "working" there a lot?
(The copper mine is the cave in the NE corner of SF, in a section of the place, you can study and earn coins for your stay there)
Working in a mine means extracting the ore from the surronding stone. If we work there a lot, we might dig out enough stone from the walls to open up new sections
Just a thought.. but a neat thought :o)

What's up with the altar message "This god has remembered you" or whatever?
I often will touch the altar but does this really do anything for me?
Is it just the destination you go to when you depart?

Kono -
Yes, it's your destination when you depart. The only other alternate destination that I know of is the altar in the tent by the arena.
Back in the beginning, before there were healers, the altar was the way one healed oneself.

Note the the Attches are a test of the /follow ability which was in and i heard was removed.
Aerick

Ender, I'm not sure that that is correct. On the newsgroup, H-GM made clear that GMs have had the /follow command, and use it to follow whenever they need to (watching players, managing invasions, etc). So /follow seems to have been around much longer than the Attaches.

Actually, the Altar was the original way for people to save their characters before the library auto-save was implemented. The god remembered your stats in the player DB and you could log off without worrying.
The attatches are believed to be a test of linked monsters, since it's likely that /follow has been available to GMs since the beginning. (How else would they easily follow people and give teensy RP awards?)

just cause GMs have had follow dosent mean that it applies to same to NPCs and exiles. the GM version of the command has no slipage like the command we have.
oh and Auto save came long before librarys. at first things were only saved every 5 minutes then it was improved alot. the library was implemented to move players off the world instead of them idleing there asleep for 5 minutes before the server droped them.

The technology has been there since chains were invented. A GM following a player is no different from the player chaining the GMs dead body after they catch them. Chains knew how to slip from the beginning, right? Follow-slipping shouldn't be much different.
Regardless of when Auto-save came along, that was still the original purpose of the Altar.

Forgot to mention - The attaches don't exhibit the same behavior as /follow in either form anyways. If they get separated they continue searching for each other. Ever seen that happen with /follow? I don't think so.
Ender

where did you get chains from this?
Althus
01-25-2001, 05:19 PM
Chains exhibit the behavior of making a fallen body follow the chainer. Ergo.

I remember using /follow it was great. And /follow has been around alot longer thatn the attaches. And also I remeber the alter was used for healing before there where healers.
