I am a bit disconnected here.
I have read, in Babajaga diary (my main source of news :-), that a group was already in the "foothills" [from Babajaga: "Autumn 540
The Clan PM with friends reached the Foothills 4 days ago."] and I know (by Tater) that the "Dred Passage" is for the foothills.
But [from Babajaga] "A reward has been offered to anyone that can reveal to Gurgi the location of the fabled Foothills. The reward is now around 20K!"
After that, she said (in a long explanation, I like this :-) "The ladder that leads to this place we have heard so much about but never found, until now. Dred Passage."
Summary: It was found or not? is that a shortcut? the passage was forgotten? not very clear.

Very recently, Tater was a member of the group led by Yor that discovered the location of the path leading into the Dred passage. Once Gurgi is shown by this group to that passage, they will claim 20,000 coins, which they will use to purchase sunstones for new exiles.
Route used to get there (may be a spoiler):
Town -> Tangle Wood -> OC1 -> Snagglewood -> Hatred Hollow (Beyond WG) -> Orga Outback -> Ladder cave -> Dread Passage -> Foothills
The reason the current discovery was big news is that when it was discovered by PM and Friends, they decided it was in our best interests that they did not tell us, and kept it a total secret. Of course, now everyone who wants to can find out where it is. And PM missed out on an opportunity for 20k for their stingyness. :)
Hope that clarifies.

I wouldn't cry too much for PM over missing out on 20k. I would guess that, considering how much they hunted 'noth when it paid, and how badass they are at hunting, that kind of money means less than nothing to them. But it sure sounds like a neat discovery. What do the foothills do? Where do they go?

It's all rumor now, but the foothills are suppose to lead to the next pathfinder trainer (Gaeyl, or the proper spelling of her name).
Also, rumor that after the Orga Camp and the Orga Village, there is a Orga Town (which would lie beyong the foothills).
Also, haven't heard anybody saying so, but pershaps after the foothills, there is also "The Valley"
