I am pretty upset with friends of mine leaving WoD...
It's just not right... :(
I guess with you leaving the clan, now I can pie you like I did to Sargon the other day:
9/28/01 2:56:35p Sargon exclaims, "!"
9/28/01 2:56:50p Sargon yells, "help!"
9/28/01 2:56:55p (Konoko grins.)
9/28/01 2:56:56p Sargon ponders, "eep! another one!"
9/28/01 2:57:00p Karkras says, "hee hee"
9/28/01 2:57:02p You equip your tangleberry pie.
9/28/01 2:57:06p (Sargon winks.)
9/28/01 2:57:08p Sargon is hit with a tangleberry pie, thrown by Konoko.
9/28/01 2:57:13p (Konoko giggles.)
9/28/01 2:57:13p (Sargon laughs.)
9/28/01 2:57:16p (Karkras laughs!)
9/28/01 2:57:17p Sargon says, "hmpf! :)"
9/28/01 2:57:21p Sargon says, "silly head! :)"
9/28/01 2:57:21p Konoko exclaims, "got ya!"
Now if you don't want this, it's simple! Stay in the clan! And for those who have already left or are vacationing from WoD, come right back and sign up!
Consider this your warning!

Sargon was fallen with a couple of WoD members. I asked people to help locate them and chain him to the clan hut. But the chain ride never made it to the clan hut... :(
But now look what the evil Sargon is doing:
9/30/01 8:54:34a You think to Sargon, "why'd you have to go and take tater and nuvali with you?"
9/30/01 8:55:30a Sargon thinks to you, "I need one more to found a new clan! Wanna leave WoD too? =)"
Don't worry Winds! I recognised Sargon's subtle attempt at luring me away from WoD! I told him it won't work!
He's almost as bad as Myrmtarr! First we take care of Myrmtarr and then it's Sargon! :)

I am happy to see people going out WoD.
Yes, I am happy.
A clan that keep all its members inside is a jail.
Yes my clanmates, you are free! free to leave! free to come back!
Go in other clans if you like! Thank you Gaia, other nice and interesting clans exist!
In fact, we could make a little ceremony for going out of the clan. We are doing one for going in :-)
Why, I think, some of my friends go out the clan?
- Not because they don't like me anymore (me = any of us, my still-clanmates :-);
- First, to be free from this social pressure that is in our clan (like in any active clan with activities): "I want to go out the library but there is a meeting and I don't want to go in the meeting..."; "Hello Sargon, you was not in the meeting last zodiac?"; "ooc: I want to play more this other character, not this old one! but they will keep asking news about my old character";
- When someone feel she/he is not good enough for our (high, they think) standards: "I don't do anything for the clan (THEY are organizing things, THEY are running actively an office, ...)"; "I come no more in the event/meeting"; "I don't seek ACTIVELY new exiles to help them"; "I can not (or I don't want) to go out the library regularly, I am a burden for the clan!"
- When one would like other goals (more large scale expedition, more investigation with powerful group, more rescues solo,...)
...
This is good: we are a clan who lives, we are with living people who change. Don't stay on your comfortable chair, keep walking, keep dancing!
PS: I just write that, but yes, I am sad when I hear that you Sargon, you Tater, you Nuvali (3 of the best friends I ever had), go out of the clan... like if you would go away of me... That is silly, I just have to re-read what I have just write... I still see you, like before, out the library; I still can chat, can hunt, can laugh with you!

I agree wholeheartedly with Farhope. I feel quite sad when treasured members of the clan leave, but I am happy if it makes them happier. If someone feels it is best for them to leave who are we to tell them otherwise? They will always be clanmates to us, but we shouldn't try to make them stay. I think it's a sign of the maturity of the clan that a few are leaving- no clan keeps all its members, there are always going to be some folks who decide over time to go a different path- they are still like family to us, but they don't have to always live in the clan house :)
I would wish that clanmates thinking to leave would say something before they go- perhaps if we didn't keep threatening to chain folks to the clan hut and stuff they might feel more comfortable talking to us about it :)

I am very impressed farhope!! You spoke very well..
I am also sadened by all this lack of happiness for Tater, Sargon, and Nuvali. Though I have not read or learned of their reasons yet, I am sure that they were honorable!!
How could our friends do anything less??
Have they become some sort of evil monsters now just because they left to go do other things?? Of course not!!
Perhpas it was simply time to leave the nest. Perhaps they have found some purpose that WOD is not fulfilling that they believe that they can
Cant we give our freinds the benifit of the doubt? Or have we decided that anyone that is not with us is against us??
Lets not become paranoid fellow clanmembers!!
To tell you the truth, all this talk of draging them back, and "I cant believe they left", is making me want to leave too!!

You've struck on something that the Tan of Hearts clan has already realized and in the process of formalizing.
We have had members that felt "trapped" and guilty to leave the clan - I believe we still have at least one... /action sighs. We've had members whose hearts have drifted or changed or have grown such that the clan does not meet their needs anymore - spiritually and physically.. that the clan is a chore now and they'd rather not come out and be confronted by it. Frankly, they've changed whether they knew it or not. I will confess that at times I wanted to put my head in the sand because of a few member's ranting - when now I realize that it was them who needed to leave... not me!
While unhappy to think about, the Guiding Hearts (at least myself and Karkras and a few others) have tried to make clear to our own clan members that if their hearts take them elsewhere, they should take follow their hearts and leave the clan. Why? For the very reasons Farhope as said.
Calchas has put forth a proposal, with I think much of Karkras' input, that in tradition already started with Henryk - we will have a good beer drinking party and celebrate that person's desire to follow their hearts when they leave the clan. No hard feelings - and perhaps some pride that they will take their experience from our clan with them. Why not? Heck, we even have in the proposal that we'll PAY them to leave! I'm still proud and happy to see Henryk and in many ways we have much to thank him for for realizing his heart was taking him elsewhere. I hope he can say he was once a Tan Heart with pride. We recently went and conquered "Henryk's Demise" on DI where in our early days he remained fallen there for quite awhile and required most of puddleby to rescue and raise him... Karkras I think has a vision snap shot of it.
Hmm... /ponders who will assimilate whom? or will we both just melt away?
We've been inducting members and had 3 guests asking good questions about us last meeting! With our recent elections - the response was, I think, to reaffirm our position - our clan need not change at all. Just some members needed to move on.
Our guests! Talk about uplifting to my spirit! I was probably ready to induct on the spot... against our policy though! I like yours, btw. Good one. I know someone who likes your clan and if he feels ready will ask about it.
Anyhow, we have a couple of Promising Hearts, one that we had already voted as Long Heart and I suspect will help bring our clan some purpose that we occasionally lack simply because we are a loosely organized group. ooc: face it, some of us do have real lives and this is a game! we don't want to work too hard at it! Hee!
So, my advice to you is - celebrate those that leave and celebrate those that join. It will happen. It's a fact of halfling life.. we don't like change, but one way or another something will come along and change the way your favorite pipe weed tastes. Do not allow someone to sour within the clan. Be happy for them either way. The hardest thing will be when they don't realize they need to leave and you do! Friends will be friends either way, if they are truly friends, and later it will a more joyous meeting when you do meet - fallen or not! I think this way good things can be said about such a clan - coming... and going!
You have a very fine clan. The Tan Hearts enjoy a good relationship I think with yours - and would like very much to keep each other healthy with the sharing of resources and ideas as we've done, I think! so far! Kudos!
/action bows and steps off his soupbox
/ponders yes, that's a soupbox... why would I use a soapbox? sheesh.
/actions giggles, waves, and runs for the brewry to buy yet his 3rd keg of rootbeer.

Thank you for your wise words!! I think that this was a good thing for WOD. With this we have diesocvered that there are other clans out there other than WOD. There are other ideas out there beside the ones we pocess. Perhaps our ego was getting a bit too large and we needed a little air let out of our heads!!
It seems that I recall another example of a large civilization that got too big for its britches. They were dealt a rather nasty blow by another group quite unexpectantly.
Its unfortunate that it takes things like this to bring about humility and perspective. But it seems that all species seem to have one thing in common
Pride!!

Thanks for your wise words, Farhope and Tas! /ponder I knew it before but Tas' thoughts show once again that it was a great decision of HoT to elect him as a GH!
Also thanks to Kiri for her support not to chain me to the clan hut during the hunt on FI yesterday! I realize they wouldn't _really_ force me to rejoin like that, but it was good to see some support. /action smiles
I think I speak for Tater and Nuvali as well when I say a BIG THANK YOU to the clan! It's really great to see you guys care so much about us! Thanks!
Sargon
/ponder I wish my thoughts would be half as consistent as the ones of Tas!
/action forgot what he's talking about and runs after the next fallen.

But Sargon, there were only 3 things that kept me from chaining you.
1) Kiriel was very insistant
2) We were on a clan hunt
3) I still don't have a chain
The last was perhaps the most important[;)]

Thanks! Wow! I sometimes have to reread what I wrote and be amazed that a little guy like me wrote that!
BTW, here is the link to our own proposal we're batting around:
http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/freeholder/tan/leavingtan.html
I'm still a bit numb and honored that I've been elected to GH a third time in a row... and I'm still wondering what the job entails! Hee! [:D] (I'm joking... I'm joking! if my own clan members read this! I'll be tossed out on my soupbox!)
You know, what I like most about your clan is it's both fun and has a purpose. I can say that I think I enjoy meeting every member you have while in the lands. It's almost "hard" fun in a way. You can tell ooc: that you play hard!
The ... whatever the heck that long comraderie word is.. you guys have is one to be envious of. If I didn't have a home with Tan or honorary membership with L&S I would be proud to be WoD. I mean that!
[:D]
Yo, Sargon, you keep posting on our Tan forum. You thinking of joining or just being yourself? [;)] I can vouch for your fickle heart... it is Tan whether you know it or not. /ponders yet another clan trying to vie for Sargon's attentions... hmm.. where the heck is Sinan? It's probably her absence that has him confused and wandering.
As far as I know, the fen over here don't drool on slyvans. Don't worry, K'vynn isn't a member. He just keeps poking his nose in it seems. He's usually too busy pondering the mystical world about the islands to pay too much attention to Slyvans here..... I'm pretty sure. Buy him some catnip brandy and I'm sure he'll leave you alone. Besides, if you leave our clan - we'll throw a big bash and pay you.... of course you will have to stay for at least a year to get the cash...
/action smiles and waves
p.s. BTW, We've recently and for the first time appointed a meeting coordinator. perhaps we can coordinate some meetings like newbie and expedition hunts. I'll work with Luna and... heck, whose your coordinator? so that perhaps we can have double the trouble out there when both clans fall! /ponder just more for Kiriel's chain to haul about, I know... I know... I'm just a little guy - pay me no mind!
