View Full Version : what is "disconnecting" IC?

When Farhope goes in the library, she "/sleeps" there and she is disconnected from the game.

IC, I suppose that she is studying, sleeping, reading some boards (the clan board for example),...
She has not her sonstone equipped to study without too much interferences; she can even not be "/thinkto"ed (why? - OOC I know why :-)
Ok, for the library, but when she is disonnecting in the wild (like the last time she was fallen on Devil island), I don't have a good explanation IC for what is happening in these 2-3 IC days. And what's happening when she is connecting back to the game (IC, I mean :-).

Any comments, ideas?

I think the most popular explanation is that you faint and therefore can't react to anything that happens in the lands. The disappearing after about 5 minutes is more difficult to explain IC I guess.

As for the library, I never thought of it as studying but more as sleeping. And the command in the library is /sleep, not /study. (I personally would prefer /snuggleupto [person], but that's just me :) I think studying comes from the fact that we gain some experience while.. um.. being in the library. :)

My most annoying problem is after Farhope fainted (around 5 minutes - and that is ok, Farhope is there: on DI, the fire rats were still eating her!). But after that, where was Farhope? And that was for 2-3 days? When, in her story, she said "when I came back", she came back [= reconnecting] from where?

Im not sure that I understand your quesiton. I think that you wish an IC explanation for times you are not in the game. SOunds like you covered teh Library pretty well. THough I wonder how we can all fit in this place. Must be pretty crowded!

Other times not being in the game would be when torn apart by some critter and laying fallen or when the computer crashed or you are disconnected for some other reason.

Well, when one falls to to some critter stealing all of your life, my explanation is that the emporer put a magical curse on the islands. He exiled us and as an additional punishment, we must endur letting this monsters drain our life force over and over again but without hope of ever acually dying. Healers are able to bring us back where we live again until another monster does us in. So, the curse is that we live forever by means of constant battle and death that is not death.

As for beeing disconnected due to some other reason, hmm. THis is a tough one. But how about this.

The magical curse that the emporer set to these isles sometimes breakes down. No one really knows why. But occasionally we disspear from the lands, seem to freeze or fall into some sort of sleep of death like trance. There is no explanation for this.

What do ya think??

Here I attempt to be IC in the OOC forum:[;)]

Poofing is helpful to us sometimes - the rats stop chewing on us etc. Therefore, I doubt that emporor fellow has much to do with it. There are many things that are different here than in the mainland. I do not remember ever departing and ruturning via prugatory before I came to Puddleby, but I do remember death. I suspect poofing is similar to depatring. Perhaps, after we have fained for a while, our bodies and spirits drift towards purgatory. But since we did not depart properly, eventually we wind up bouncing back to near where we were when we fainted.

Nice Del,

I think the answer might be; Do we really need an answer or a theory to explain these things?

WHy cant it just be a mystery?

Seems we have a lot of them in CL. WHy cant poofing or falling or getting dissconnected just be one more?

Its just another aspect of life in the Lok Groton isles that we do not understand.

Soemtimes we dissapear from the lands for a brief time. No one knows why. The exiles that dissapears has no knowledge of where they were during this time or what happened to them. Its just a mystery.

I agree that it can stay a mystery.
I would like to know what I feel when I am not there... maybe nothing like I would have dreamed or fainted...

Farhope,

I applaud your efforts to come up with an explanation for these things. I too have wished to come up with IC explanations for ever occurance in the game.

What or how should you feel when gone. hmm!!

How about something like those that have had Near Death experiences have had. THey often speak of very odd and strange things. THough there is often a common thread in their descriptions.

Common thread such as insanity? Or maybe strong drugs? :D

Most speak of seeing a light or a being of light and an overwhelming feeling of love.
