Heh, 20 ranks ago Evus said "It is good to see you", now he says "[I am] one of [his] better pupils".

Pardon?

I have only had 15 lessons with Evus (ever), and the 20 ranks were 10 each of Detha and Darkus.

I knew that Evus' teachings had elements of many of the other trainers, and that they would report this in their progress reports. I did not know that it worked in reverse.

I do not seem to fight any better <g>.

I will assume that this is normal. It surprised me.

/action chuckles

Does this have any bearing on my fighting at all?

Beyond self gratification, is there any worth in what the trainers tell you?

A bewildered Ed.

I'm not sure how listening to what Evus says, unless you're actually training in him, will be beneficial.

I've trained 50 ranks in him way back when and he tells me:
Evus says, "Hail, Konoko. Teaching you is a challenge." What's this 200-250?

What you train in the other trainers will affect your Evus total but I'm not sure at all how it all works.

I understand that the 3rd/4th circle trainers will actually take away some of your evus rank training and train you in something else. How does this work? Would I actually lose some of these 50 ranks or some of the "teaching you is a challenge" ranks?

I find it kinda confusing myself. But I guess as long as Evus goes up then nothing to complain about... :)

Hopefully someone here will have a much better and detailed explanation...

Evus is a mixture of skills, composed of (estimation)

70% of a Swengus (30% Regia 40% Balthus)
25% of an Atkus
20% of a Histia
20% of a Darkus
5% of a Detha

for a total of 140% of a rank. What's very likely, is that you had enough Swengus and Atkus (probably more than enough) for 50 ranks, somewhere between 10 and 20 Histia, but hadn't trained any Darkus/Detha besides what you got from your first 15 Evus. After training those ranks, you had enough Darkus/Detha to put you in the 50-100 evus bracket, without training any Evus. Listening to Evus, per se, isn't really beneficial, but Kretski (who does the actual increasing of your Evus message) will give you a small bonus to your "Body" stat, which is currently useless, but may have some purpose in the future.

Konoko, here's a rough explanation of how the trainers work. Let's say you train with Anglisa:

Regia bonus: + 200% Regia
Evus malus:
-70% Swengus (30 Regia 40 Balthus)
-25% Atkus
-20% Histia
-20% Darkus
-5% Detha

So in total, your other skills went down but your Regia increased 170% of a rank. Knox works the same way, except for Darkus instead of Regia. They are both 3rd circle trainers. Rodnus, the 4th circle fighter trainer, doesn't take any ranks away, but adds 400% of the rodnus component in one Spirtus rank. He is capped at 50 ranks, which is the equivalent of 200 Spirtus but without the healer trainers, which are a waste of time. It is currently reccomended that fighters stay away from Spirtus and save their time and energy for training Rodnus at 4th circle.

Wow Althus! You're liking a walking library or something...

Thanks for all the info!

Thank you both for your information.

Particularly the information on the 3rd circle trainers, it is most interesting.

Ed. (Who has only recently stumbled into the 2nd circle fighter training area)

It is currently reccomended that fighters stay away from Spirtus and save their time and energy for training Rodnus at 4th circle.

I can understand giving this advice to high 3rd cirlce fighters, getting close to passing 4th. But I hope no one is giving this advice to 1st and 2nd circle fighters, or even low 3rd circle ones. I'd reccomend all 2nd circle fighters train a little spiritus (not 100's of ranks, but some), especially if you want to hunt in more remote places with a healer.

I ran the numbers that Althus gave and came up with the following. I'm going to presume that both Anglisa and Knox are also capped at 50 trainings, just like Rodnus is.

For the full 50 trainings with either Anglisa or Knox, you lose the following from the loss of 50 trainings of Evus.
Regia (-30%) 15
Balthus (-40%) 20
Atkus (-25%) 12.5
Histia (-20%) 10
Darkus (-20%) 10
Detha (-5%) 2.5

You also gain 100 trainings with either Regia or Darkus. With Anglisa you end up with 85 lessons of Regia and with Knox you end up with 90 lessons of Darkus. Unfortunately, you also lose 70 of other lessons that you might want to recover eventually.

What I just said might be well-known by everyone or these special trainers might be used even though they take away Evus. I just thought of running the numbers might be interesting.

P.S. Does Evus' message change when you train with Anglisa or Knox?

P.P.S. Are their capped at 50 trainings like Rodnus is?

Anglisa and Knox have no caps, and yes, they do change Evus' message.

Deli, I always strongly reccomend fighters to stay away from Spirtus. It's a waste of a large number of ranks. As long as they're not going for the histia-freak route, it doesn't pose a huge problem to the time it takes to heal them. 10 ranks of Spirtus is 7.5 ranks of waste/slaughter. That may not seem like a huge difference, but at the levels you advocate training Spirtus at, it is.
