Hi!
Ok, so maybe I'm not a very new exile, but the question is prolly something a newbie after one zodiac can answer. That's why this thread is here and not.. um.. somewhere else.
I'm wondering how much you exile-types (that sounds rather Konoko'ish, right? :) spend on _maintaining_ your clothes. I assume that maintaining bramble-dyed tan clothes are prolly less expensive than Thuja's skirt, but I'd like to have a general idea. :) Is it more expensive than the advanced library? (which seems to be about 1c/day) Also, I guess that hair colour and shoes don't need maintaining (I DO wash my hair regularly though!) but skin colour does? Thanks for your answers. :)

PS. This thread may or may not be inspired by a certain answer in the the Kudzu thread. :)
Hi Sarge!
Hair colour is the only permanent one, that does not wear off. One time fee.
Thats ok for the typical Sylvan *cough* *cough*...
Shirts, Pants and shoes wear off over time but it

I'm wondering how much you exile-types (that sounds rather Konoko'ish, right? :)
Now you're starting to imitate my speech patterns? This is getting kind of scary! :)
Well speaking as a seamstress with approx 25 ranks who does lots of library research rather than just sitting in my comfy chair looking pretty... :)
- shoes do wear out unless you make them your default shoes in the north part of the dye hut. For 50 coins or something like that, you can make a pair of shoes your default pair so that these will then not wear. I think this is worth it. My beautiful pink shoes have never worn a bit from day one!
- the more expensive the clothing, the more costly it is to repair.
- The NPC in the north part of the dye shop will do repairs on clothing/shoes.
- Exile-types with tailor training can also do repairs. The more training an exile has, the more serious wear the exile can mend. Also, the more ranks an exile has means a discount over the NPC (and other lowered ranked tailor exiles).
- when you start clanning, you get a message automagically on the status of your clothing. Also, you can do an /examine to see how worn your clothes are.
I think that covers pretty much most of the basics of seamstress life!

And Sargon, if you're just wearing tan clothes so you have less of a cleanup when you spill a tangleberry pie all over yourself (I have a picture of this for anyone who is interested! - very funny!), don't worry!
The pie spills are very easy to cleanup and don't even leave a stain due to I guess special ingredients used by the bakers of Puddleby...
So don't think that if you get some fancy expensive outfit that you will be spared from the wrath of the tangleberry pies!

Alby, I'm a bit surprised you never had to repair your clothes so far. I remember that when I wore my green shirt (remember Lerris and Mehan? :), I got a message saying that it wore down a bit after maybe 1 (ic-)hour. So I was wondering how much I'd have to spend to maintain a typical shirt/pants (I want a skirt! Don't laugh! ;) per zodiac.
Konoko, thanks for your info as well! (although the part about pies was not asked for! *smiles*) And about the speech patterns - I'm just trying to understand the language of the People better! (and obviously need a course in grammar...)
Ok, let's make an example: Let's say Sargon would wear a lime shirt (I think that's tan dyed twice with brambles, gotta ask Lerris or Mehan again :) and dark-green skir.. I mean pants. And let's further assume I'm out of the library 1 hour / (ic-)day. How much would I have to spend in order to maintain my clothes?

Well, that's better than running around without any clothes on at all. I think clothes wear at a cost proportional to their cost from the NPC's (so a 50c blue shirt is 5 times as expensive to maintain as a 10c brown skirt). I don't know how dyes affect this, though. I need to find Konoko to check my clothes, but I don't seem to spend that much on maintaining them. Certainly less than I spend on library fees.

Since I have a tailor with over 100 Sartorio trainings, my pricing estimates are probably a bit low compared to Konoko's. My general experience is that unless you're wearing a very expensively dyed outfit it takes months to get it to be over 100c worth of repair. I get my shirt (grey bleached with lilas) mended about once every OOC month or two by Malloc. I think the most expensive it's ever been has been 50c, and Malloc has less training in Sartorio than my char. I'd use Konoko but I can never find her!
Dyes are more expensive than bleaches though, so I suspect that could add up more quickly. Note that it's almost always cheaper to go to a tailor than the NPC (I think 10-20 ranks of Sartorio is enough to make it cheaper).

Thanks for the replies! :) I at least have some vague idea how much it would cost! So Konoko, will you be out more, if I get other clothes!? :)
And btw, Delirium: I DO wear clothes!

Sure Sargon - I'll try to be out more...
I do try and make it to clan meetings and hunts when I can so this can be a good time to try and catch me.
I just put some more supplies in my sewing kit recently so I think it's back up to 200+ coins worth of supplies.
And once I pass 3rd, I'm planning to get more ranks in stuff like sewing, path-finding, skea (maybe - as long as I still have Lerris beat), and maybe some dentir (although I don't frequent the noids).

Sargon, I'll give you my forest green pants and my turqoise healer shirt if you'd like one or both of them. No charge!

Thanks for the offer, Moon Kitty, but I already have a second set of clothes in my inventory. (I think greenish stuff) And blue pants too if I remember right.

Ok, since nobody's coughed up any ACTUAL general statistics, here's the skinny on clothing repairs: Over 10 OOC months of casual play (1-2 hours/day, 5 days a week) you'll end up paying just a bit more than the cost of your clothes in repairs from the NPC (who I always use because I don't trust exile tailors. No offense to anyone). Exile tailors start charging less with about 50 Sartorio.

Two things -
First, Althus, shame on you for not trusting Konoko. But yes, I don't give my clothes to just anyone to repair, only exiles I know. I've heard there is an exile tailor out there who is stealing clothes.
Second, the new /info command tells you what people are wearing - and people wearing newbie tan (no clothes items) are not wearing anything! I haven't seen sargon to check whether he is really wearing clothes (the cheepo tan ones) or is wearing nothing.[;)]

repairs from the NPC (who I always use because I don't trust exile tailors. No offense to anyone)
None taken Althus!
Word in tailor circles is that some of them don't trust you either! Don't ask me why - it's a secret... ;)
Exile tailors start charging less with about 50 Sartorio.
50, eh? Ok - that will be a goal for me then!
I'm betting Sargon is wearing nothing! He's just out for attention! :)
Here in the library there are rumours floating around that Sargon is streaking through all of Puddleby chaining "victims" around laughing maniacally...
Poor, poor Sargon. Someone should really have a talk with him!

It seems that some WoD members mistake their wishful thinking with reality. Any seamstress/tailor could have told you that I do wear clothes. (ooc: since the day they became items)
/ponder One would think that a pair of eyes would also be enough for this.. maybe attach an additional OE otherwise...
And thanks for some concrete info, Althus! (not implying the other info was not helpful)
Sargon
/ponder Why can't a seamstress _create_ clothes, instead of 'just' repair it?

Sargon, seamstress and weaver are different occupations. Now, if cloth were available in town, I expect seamstresss could make clothes. Since it is not, they are limited to repairing existing clothes.

Here's my rule for exile tailors- if you don't know and trust the tailor, get a reference from someone you trust. If the tailor can't give you a reference of someone you know and trust, don't use them. Many of the library tailors only mend their alternate char clothes and a few friends clothes and aren't very well known to the Puddleby public. Best to get your tailoring from someone trustworthy. But don't avoid all exile tailors, some are quite trustworthy (you should know Althus!) and will save you quite a bit of money if your clothes are expensive. Just make sure you know the person mending your clothes can be trusted.
