View Full Version : Qualifications for becoming a Master

First of all, I just passed my 2nd circle healer test, all because of Mehan's training and Sargon's shield. Thanks again guys!
I thought that once I passed 2nd circle I would become a master, because I had the 250 ranks needed. But, I was surprised that I was still not being called Master. So are there any other qualifications? By my calculating, which should be exact, I have 288 total ranks, 261 of which are healer specific. What could I possibly be missing?
Not that being called Master means anything to me...
/action smiles.
Thanks,
Hippo

First of all not all NPC will call you "master," and not al lthe time. Those in the raffle house will call you "master" if you are one.
The only reason I can see that you are no called a master would be if you have Eva training and that you count the 0.4 part of the 1.4 ranks worth you get with Eva. I *think* you need ranks directly trained to qualify as a master.
For instance if you had trained only Eva for 200 ranks of actual experience, you would have a total of 280 ranks (assuming 1.4, of which I am not totally sure), but you would not be a master yet.
Only a speculation on my part though (and for a reason I hope this is right otherwise I need to /bug it).

That would make sense then. I have a lot of Eva, and the bulk of each trainer's teachings comes from her. So, that's probably it.
Thanks Drablak,

Congrats on passing the test Hippocrates!!! Did you make a visionstone you can post?

Sadly, I forgot to make a visionstone. But it went very well as I just became yellow as Glory was raised, so it really wasn't that close. I seem to do better with out my orga eye on...go figure [:D] !

I'm not a healer (no, really, I'm not!), but I made Master status at 200 ranks. At the time, I attributed that to my Evus training. Perhaps there IS some other mysterious factor involved?

As far as I know, "master" is only used by servants talking to their employer or low ranking people referring to high ranking, and "lord" refers to land-owners.... oh, wrong system. ;)
I'm pretty sure that it has less to do with your number of ranks, and more to do with your slaughter level. That is, you'll become a master quickly if you train 100% Troilus, and reeeeally slowly if you train to be a baker. :)

"Master" is, and always has been 200 ranks. Lord is, and always has been 550. Anybody saying otherwise is misinformed.
I'm inclined to agree with Drablak's assessment of the situation.

Great job! Everyone's doing so well lately!

Fellow exiles,
I just want to corroborate what Althus just wrote.
I became a Master just after reaching 200 "pure", directly trained, ranks. (Eva is a cheat (**)). For me, it had nothing to do with slaughter levels. I still kill vermin, and only slaughter kudzu, rats, scavenger birds, scavenger spiders, starbucks, and those crunchy myrm farmers.
Aye! It is good still being able to kill and vanquish beasts after more than a year in Puddleby!
And, Hippocrates: a big congratulation, and welcome to 2nd Circle!!! Well done!
/Kirth
(**) This is a philosophical debate, that can be had elsewhere. "Eva is a cheat, Spirtus is a Good Guy!"

When I became Lady I counted exactly 600 ranks. Maybe my count was off, but it seems odd it would be off exactly 50 ranks. Could the requirements have changed?

Did you, perchance, have exactly 200 Evus then, Lex?
I have no idea how much Evus I had. 200 is possible, but exactly 200 is unlikely. Why, is Evus supposed to be 1.25 ranks or something?

1.25 or 1.35, I forget.
Anyway, I'm sure to beyond reasonable doubt it's 550.

I'll tell you in 2-3 OOC months (if I am lucky) when I make it to lord. (475 ranks now).

Hello,
I was called 'Master' last night by some of the blue people.
When i consulted scribia I could only find 187 lessons.
Skae Brightfur told me 'I was progressing well' even if I could only count 26 lessons. (It might be that fur experience give lessons in skinning, not actual teacher)
Maybe Bordus and Troilus help me a little.
On a side note I've noticed many people will make complex calculation about teacher and lessons to get optimal experience.
Would compute optimal size of a group and optimal network of sharing to get the most exp. (cross share between low and level fighter so that low level could help vanq and give 5% to high level who would have slaughter ...)
But, when it came to fight the storm of vermine and Orga furry in TW, the overall 'optimal' team strategy in know by the name of 'fun' (e.g. fight nearest critters, optionnaly tag, do not pay heed to red level, fall and be rescued)

teacher strategy : mood of the day (easiest)
fighting strategy : be a group (hardest)

I have noticed that when you talk to the library clerks that "can help you put the knowledge you have gained while studying to use more quickly" they will (if you have enough exp) give you one or more ranks without the usual "rank message" so Scribia won't be able to count those. Search your text logs for the line "You should now understand more of". I think it's better to wait for the ordinary rank message to able to count ranks.
Oh, and congrats!

I am not certain of this, but it kinda makes sense...Thalion noted that he found that departs affected when you were called Master/Lord.
i.e. you would be a Lord at 550 ranks plus one rank for every depart you had.
I never really paid attention to when I was called Lord, so I have no idea of what my exact total in ranks was at the time (plus I train alot of Eva, which makes it harder), but I am pretty sure it was over 550 - which I kinda attributed to the fact that I am also a depart addict.

Hmm...
I trained 200 Eva, and a little bit of everybody else, not to mention Proxi.
I have uhm, 5 departs, which is low for a third circle healer *looks proud*
I guess I had the 550 ranks... but who knows... I'm coming up on my 1 year anniversary... In May, May 4th I think. Or earlier.
Is 550 ranks in almost a year good? And third circle? Or am I lagging behind the norm?

I was exiled before you Mehan (by about an OOC month). I think I was called Lady 1-3 weeks before you. I have 2-3 departs. We are probably about the same in total ranks now, but I'm still 2nd circle. I can never seem to do better than getting one of the wendies past yellow.
SO.... you seem to be doing slightly better than me.

Don't kill the wendies, silly! [:p]
